We are now looking for a Manager, Communications to join our Communications and Brand team. This position is located at our headquarters in Helsinki, Finland.

We are looking for an experienced PR and communications professional with a proven track record in impactful media communications and crisis communications management. This is a great opportunity if you are passionate about shaping public perception and driving strategic communication initiatives. You will play a key role in positioning our brand and supporting our strategic initiatives through proactive international media work. What you will do
You will be responsible for developing the earned media strategy in close collaboration with colleagues in the Communications and Brand team. While the strategy will be crafted collaboratively, you will have the primary responsibility for its implementation – translating plans into action, refining approaches based on outcomes, and ensuring consistent execution. This includes building and maintaining media relations, proactively pitching stories, managing media inquiries and coordinating media briefings. In addition, you will be responsible for our corporate social media channels and create content that captures the attention of our audiences.
In this position you will:
Position UPM through proactive earned media work in Finland and selected other countries including building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets, pitching and handling media inquiries, arranging media briefs, and managing the work of external agencies
Monitor media and follow up media performance
Develop and run a spokespersons program, including media training to spokespersons and advising them in media interaction
Manage crisis communications cases and lead related trainings as needed
Lead press release process ensuring high quality of content that supports our company and brand strategy, send and publish press releases and ensure media lists are up to date
Support Investor Relations with stock exchange release content and publication as required
Manage corporate social media including managing social media accounts, creating engaging content, and monitoring social media
Who you are
You have a university degree and 6+ years of experience in leading and executing media work in Finland and other countries and experience from communicating complex topics to media, with a track record of consistently successful media pitching
You have demonstrated crisis communications experience
You have a proven expertise in different communications channels and know how to use them effectively
You have a proven capability of turning company strategy and versatile topics into compelling, audience relevant messages and presentations. This will be tested.
You have experience working in a publicly listed company and robust understanding about regulations related to listed companies in Finland. Experience in the industrial or technology sector is a plus
You have experience in utilizing AI tools and robust view of the potential of AI in communications
You have exceptional written and editorial Finnish and English skills, at the level of a proficient professional communicator; fluency is required, regardless of native language. Proficiency in German is a plus.
You have strong project management skills and structured approach
You are a team player who naturally builds networks within the company and cooperates with others
You have a proactive way of working and a positive attitude
