The Finance Manager is responsible for end-to-end financial management of assigned client portfolios. This includes revenue recognition oversight, forecasting, pricing governance, contract compliance, billing alignment, and financial risk management.

This role serves as the Business Manager on complex or high-profile accounts, providing commercial guidance to account and project management teams while ensuring financial discipline and operational consistency.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical finance skills with sound commercial judgment, clear communication, and the ability to bring structure to evolving or ambiguous environments.

Key Responsibilities

Client Financial Leadership

  • Serve as the financial steward for assigned client portfolios.
  • Provide clear financial guidance to account and project management teams, reinforcing scope discipline, pricing integrity, and contract compliance.
  • Communicate complex financial concepts in clear, accessible language to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify revenue risk, over-service exposure, and margin pressure, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Partner with client leadership to manage billing, accounts receivable, and credit requirements.

Revenue Recognition & Compliance

  • Review monthly fees and expenses for accuracy and compliance with company revenue recognition policy.
  • Ensure alignment between billing schedules, purchase orders, and revenue recognition to prevent leakage or misstatement.
  • Oversee monthly close readiness, ensuring forecasts, accruals, and reporting are timely and accurate.
  • Maintain strong documentation standards to support audit readiness and internal controls.
  • Identify inconsistencies across systems or manual tracking tools and implement process improvements as needed.

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead monthly budget-to-actual reviews and provide clear variance analysis to account leadership.
  • Prepare and present management reporting that highlights profitability trends, staffing alignment, utilization, and financial risk.
  • Partner with account, resource, and project management teams to align staffing plans with contractual commitments and revenue targets.
  • Support and guide pricing development for proposals, SOWs, and contract negotiations, escalating material risks appropriately.
  • Provide structured financial perspective on scope configuration and pricing models, particularly in complex or evolving client environments.

Commercial & Governance Leadership

  • Reinforce financial guardrails with cross-functional teams, proactively course-correcting scope, billing, or delivery misalignment.
  • Ensure written client agreements are obtained and properly archived.
  • Supervise project setup processes and ensure accuracy of financial configuration within systems.
  • Drive profitability by strengthening financial discipline across account and project management teams.

Systems & Process Integrity

  • Ensure integrity and consistency of financial data across systems and manual tracking tools.
  • Identify process gaps or control weaknesses and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain organized, accessible documentation to support operational continuity and reduce risk.
  • Promote anticipation of monthly close and proactive financial planning across the team.

People Management & Team Development

  • Supervise and develop Financial Analysts or junior finance staff.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of team deliverables through structured review and coaching.
  • Provide clear expectations, monitor progress, and hold team members accountable for performance and compliance.
  • Contribute to performance feedback and professional development planning.
  • Foster transparency around workload, capacity, and forecasting discipline.

Measures of Success

  • Accurate and timely revenue recognition and forecasting.
  • Contributes to stabilization and maturity of financial operating rhythms across complex portfolios.
  • Reduced revenue volatility and over-service risk.
  • Builds trusted partnerships with account and project management leadership.
  • Strong cross-functional financial discipline and stakeholder trust.
  • Effective development and accountability of finance team members.
  • Maintains consistent communication upward, ensuring Finance leadership is aware of emerging exposure.
  • Continuous improvement in financial processes and controls.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 5+ years of Finance or Accounting experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong commercial judgment and business acumen.
  • Ability to challenge scope and pricing decisions constructively and confidently.
  • Clear, concise communicator who can translate financial insights for non-finance audiences.
  • Highly organized with strong documentation and control discipline.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and establishing structure where processes are evolving.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial systems and experience managing system-to-manual reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop junior team members.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and accountable.
  • Establishes credibility as a trusted financial advisor, not just a financial reporter.

Edelman Compensation & Benefits Highlights

The following summarizes recurring compensation and benefits themes identified from responses generated by popular LLMs to common candidate questions about Edelman and has not been reviewed or approved by Edelman.

  • Healthcare Strength Benefits are described as comprehensive, with health plans commonly framed as a strong part of the overall package. Mental and physical well-being programs are also emphasized as meaningful support.
  • Flexible Benefits Work flexibility is positioned as a standout, including hybrid routines and a “Work From Anywhere” option for part of the year. Flexible public holidays are also highlighted as adding practical choice to how time is used.
  • Retirement Support Retirement offerings such as a 401(k) match (and pension-style contributions in some markets) are consistently presented as a solid component of total rewards. This tends to improve overall package value even when base pay feels less competitive.
