PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Manages the day to day operations of the Clinical Engineering Department. Supervises and provides technical support for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, Radiologic Service Technicians, Sterilization Service Technicians and Equipment Inspectors.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets priorities and assigns responsibilities for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, Radiology Service Technicians, Sterilization Service Technicians, Equipment Inspectors and Clinical Engineering office staff in managing workload.
Does performance reviews on all other members of department under his authority.
Assumes duties and functions of technicians as circumstances demand.
Manages the departmental requisition and materials management process.
Develops and maintains parts inventory system and locates parts for specific equipment repair.
Maintains technical library for procurement reference.
Plans, supervises and participates in installation or movement of major medical systems.
Serves as a technical reference on various types of patient care equipment.
Assists in the investigation of incidents involving patient care equipment.
Formulates and modifies clinical engineering policies and procedures to meet specific needs.
Utilizes departmental computer system to track work, status of repairs and to generate management reports.
Supervises and participates in the in-service training of new technicians and clinical staff concerning use and operation of patient care equipment.
Attends staff meetings and participates in other meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences as required.
Represents the department in absence of Director of Clinical Engineering.

Frequent contact with physicians, nurses, technicians and other hospital staff to communicate information of equipment functioning and safety.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associates Degree in Electronic Technology.
Five years experience in electronics maintenance and repairs. Prior supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
