The University of Miami School of Communication has an exciting opportunity for a full time Manager, Broadcast Production Services to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Broadcast & Production Services Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the School of Communication broadcast production facilities and equipment used by students, faculty, and staff in classroom, offices, and production areas to ensure that space and equipment are utilized efficiently and maintained appropriately, including management of the equipment rental processes. The position is also responsible for ensuring technical and engineering support is provided for the School’s broadcast studios, student pre and post production labs, and University student media groups. Reports to the Senior Business Officer and oversees other staff members.

Core responsibilities:

• Manage the daily operations of the engineering and broadcast operation functions of the studios, ensuring compliance with University, state and federal policies and regulations, including those of the Federal Communications Commission.
• Ensure the broadcast quality of the station's signal and efficient operation of equipment; supports the station's ability to maintain its schedule without error and minimum lost airtime or equipment downtime.
• Execute daily technical set-up of and analysis, troubleshooting, and repair of broadcast TV cameras, editing suite, video servers, and other technical equipment required for classes and other productions.
• Oversee technical equipment room operations and staff, ensuring support for faculty and students in the use, check-out, and operation of equipment.
• Assists Facilities and Operations to ensure operation of all audio visual infrastructures, including in classrooms, offices, labs, and the Cosford Cinema.
• Develop, manage, forecast and implement annual fiscal capital budget for technical equipment and engineering needs in conjunction with departments and the School administration.
• Manages the acquisition and maintenance of technical equipment for the School; writes specifications and coordinates purchasing, delivery, and installation; enters orders into system and tracks orders and receipts against budget on shared tracking sheet; serves as the primary liaison with contractors and vendors.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating maintenance logs, manuals, and schematics.
• Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify and address engineering, audio-visual, and equipment needs.
• Hire, train, and manage broadcast studio engineering, equipment room, other technical staff.
• Ensure a consistently high level of customer service throughout the department through creation of appropriate service standards, and regular observation and mentoring of department personnel.
• Works closely with School of Communication IT department and UMIT regarding the network compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Ten years of experience are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of broadcasting rules and regulations including FCC regulations regarding digital broadcasting
  • Knowledge of broadcasting production techniques.
  • Knowledge of control room operations and equipment
  • Knowledge of High Definition\Serial Digital broadcast and audio visual equipment and broadcast systems integration
  • Knowledge of ENG equipment
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premier and Avid software
  • Knowledge of nonlinear editing systems
  • Knowledge of information technology equipment
  • Knowledge of fiber optic encoder\decoder
  • Knowledge of film production and editing equipment
  • Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol\Internet Protocol (TCP\IP) and Ethernet topology
  • Knowledge of Maya and After Effects animation software
  • Knowledge of ENPS Newsroom System
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve complex technical problems efficiently
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
  • Excellent time management skills and able to multi-task
  • Able to work well under minimal supervision
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Strong organizational and management skills
