ABOUT THIS POSITION
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical anchor for our Eligibility product. This is a hands‑on, force‑multiplier role for an experienced engineer who leads through code, system design, and technical influence, not people management.In this role, you will tackle the most complex technical challenges within the product, helping ensure our backend systems are high‑performance, resilient, and built to scale. You’ll work closely with other senior engineers and engineering leadership to shape solutions while remaining deeply involved in day‑to‑day development.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Make accurate judgement calls about hard technical decisions for your own work and the work of a team.
- Propagate proper decisions and solutions to the Engineering Manager.
- Collaborate with, mentor, and support team members in developing sound technical solutions
- Design, develop, test, and implement new features and enhancements for Waystar’s core processing applications and sometimes website.
- Build and maintain applications in alignment with functional and technical specifications
- Take ownership of assigned work, driving code to production with minimal oversight.
- Perform on call duties, roughly one week in a quarter.
- Ensure accurate deployments through thought out solutions, good unit testing, and end to end automation testing.
- Identify opportunities for refactoring, optimization, and improved architectural or technology solutions
- Solve complex technical problems with minimal oversight
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 7+ years of experience with .NET, or other OOP language.
- 7+ years of experience with SQL Server or other industry‑standard relational databases.
- Experience with RabbitMQ, or other queueing system
- Experience with deploying pods to Kubernetes.
- Strong experience with programming fundamentals, such as unit testing, data structures, and debugging.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as this is a social role.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
- Highly self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience building highly scalable, enterprise grade software solutions
- Subject matter expertise in at least one technical domain or track
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Preferred Skills
- Experience with N‑tier architectures and SaaS development
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with modern development tools, frameworks, and best practices
- Developing agentic workflows and shipping features with AI.
