Manager - Application Engineer

The RoleIn this position, you will lead the Custom Interfaces and Applications Team to estimate, design, develop, and implement custom software solutions for AspenTech, DGM utility customers. These software solutions provide an interface between AspenTech DGM standard products and 3rd party systems as needed by the customer in addition, can provide custom features not available in our standard software packages.

Your Impact

• Qualify, assign, prioritize and allocate appropriate resources to support company custom interface and application projects.
• Hire and onboard new employees as needed, focus on retaining key talent.
• Be accountable for the continuous improvement of team processes and automation.
• Establish team members annual performance goals and plans.
• Evaluate team members relative to performance goals and plans.
• Determine and develop training materials and project documentation. 
• Design and implement software solutions for customer-specific needs. Most often this will be a program to interface with another system, or a program which provides a feature not available in our standard software packages.
• Confluence technical information and accuracy.
• Jira organization of all custom interface and application projects.
• Support Sales by providing custom interface and application discovery and labor estimates during the sales process.
• Organize and lead design workshops with customers.
• Prepare complex design documents detailing the proposed solution to meet customer requirements.
• Develop software according to design documents.
• Conduct design and code reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy, and quality.
• Technical mentorship for members of the team and as a technical leader within the group.
• Document and share knowledge to assist in technical development of team members.

What You'll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.  
• 5-8 years’ experience in project engineering, power systems engineering or development. 
• 2-5 years’ experience as a people leader.   
• Ability to travel at least 25%.  
• Strong leadership, organizational, project management, written, oral and presentation skills required. 
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally and at different levels of the organization are important. 
• Proficiency with Python programming language.
• Knowledge of other programming languages such is C#, C++.
• Knowledge of Git for software development.
• Proficiency in technical writing.
• Experience with or knowledgeable about electric power generation, transmission, and distribution.
• Expertise in any of the following areas: electric utility operations, control systems, automation, client/server applications, APIs, web services, network communications, operating systems, algorithms, SQL and other database technologies.
• Knowledge of common interfacing technologies like HTTP/S, web service development, middleware and Apache Camel.
