Job Summary

The Manager, Accounting Advisory – Investments will be part of the Accounting Advisory team at F&G, which is responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP and Statutory reporting for F&G and its insurance carriers. This position is responsible for providing accounting advice for asset classes in F&G’s existing investment portfolio (bonds, mortgages, derivatives, and various forms of equity investments), participating in cross-functional teams with investment-related financial reporting implications and influencing structuring of new investments. The position is also responsible for the recognition and ongoing accounting for new investments or asset classes acquired by F&G, along with the monitoring and implementation of emerging accounting guidance impacting investments.

As a core contributor to the team, this position will become a key point of contact for professionals throughout the organization for accounting inquiries.

This position will report to the AVP, Accounting Advisory and will work cross-functionally with business partners within the organization including, but not limited to: Investment Strategy, Hedging, Middle Office, Investment Accounting, Capital Planning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Evaluating new bespoke investments presented by asset managers by ensuring awareness and understanding of the financial reporting outcomes generated.
  2. Assessing financial report implications of organizational initiatives with investment-related impacts (e.g. consolidation, asset transfers, new derivatives and hedging programs, capital financing).
  3. Evaluate, document, and provide education where necessary on appropriate GAAP and Statutory accounting and financial reporting requirements for new investments acquired, new investment-related strategic initiatives, and the existing investment portfolio. This also includes assessing new investments under Statutory guidance as part of the principles-based bond definition.
  4. Monitor proposed changes to GAAP and Statutory accounting guidance and serve as participant and advocate for the Company’s positions on industry group calls. Utilize information gained to educate stakeholders throughout the organization and work cross-functionally to ensure the Company is appropriately aware of the impacts of all relevant accounting literature.
  5. Prepare documentation to support accounting positions taken related to new accounting standards documenting the appropriate GAAP and Statutory accounting and financial reporting requirements.
  6. Support the creation and maintenance of the Company’s accounting policies.
  7. Work directly with audit team to educate and advocate for positions related to new transactions or new accounting standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This role does not have formal people leadership responsibilities but may provide guidance, mentorship, or subject matter expertise to others.

Education/ Experience 

Bachelor's Degree in accounting required

7+ years of relevant experience 

  • Experience researching accounting guidance or previous accounting policy experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance company investment accounting topics strongly preferred (e.g., fixed income investments, equity investments, derivatives, hedging, asset transfers, IMR/AVR, affiliated accounting models).
  • Big 4 experience in the insurance audit practice or an accounting advisory role that focuses on accounting for investments is a plus.
