Wiltshire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to join its Childrens Finance Team, this is a finance business partnering role that supports council services by providing financial management, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and advice to help managers make informed decisions.

As a Management Accountant, you will support the Principal Accountants and Head of Finance to provide an efficient and effective finance service working within a team that meets customer and corporate needs. Providing support to the council’s service managers, particularly to those identified as high risk in terms of customer, political or financial impact.

You will help develop new systems for financial and performance management and provide management information in response to specific operational requests and complete grant applications and government returns.

We are looking for a candidate who is part qualified CCAB with relevant experience or have full AAT or equivalent qualification and membership with relevant post qualification experience.

You will have proven experience of budget preparation and interpretation and have experience of budget monitoring, closedown and budget setting as well as confidence with provision of finance advice and controls such as account reconciliations. With excellent analytical skills, experience of finance systems, IT and use of excel and data interrogation routines/applications you will be open to or experienced in transformational change in terms of governance, systems and processes.

Skills Required

  • Part-qualified CCAB or full AAT (or equivalent) with relevant post-qualification experience and membership
  • Proven experience of budget preparation, interpretation, monitoring, closedown and budget setting
  • Experience providing finance advice and maintaining financial controls (including account reconciliations)
  • Experience with finance systems and IT, including advanced Microsoft Excel and data interrogation routines/applications
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to produce management information and financial analysis
  • Experience completing grant applications and government returns
  • Experience or openness to transformational change in governance, systems and processes
  • Experience of finance business partnering and supporting service managers (including high-risk services)
