About the role

An opportunity has become available for an experienced, commercially minded Management Accountant to join our Auckland-based Finance team. This role is available due to internal promotion, reflecting our commitment to developing and progressing our people from within. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in monthly reporting and analysis, cost control, while providing meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making across the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, including margin and variance analysis with clear commentary.
  • Provide meaningful margin insights, identify root causes of variances, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Develop cost standards and evaluate operational efficiencies across the business.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and manufacturing cost records.
  • Assess profitability across products, categories and segments, providing actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Analyse labour, material and overhead costs to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate cost allocation across business units.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support planning, forecasting and commercial decision-making.
  • Partner with department heads to understand business operations and support cost control initiatives.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving issues as they arise.

Skills and experience

We are looking for a hands-on Accountant who enjoys partnering with the business, turning data into insights and helping drive better commercial outcomes. You will bring strong management accounting, financial analysis and modelling capability, along with:

  • Proven experience as a Management Accountant or in a similar role, ideally within manufacturing, import and distribution, or a large, complex commercial organisation. Experience in a global group or listed corporation would be highly regarded.

  • CPA, CA or similar professional qualification.

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and ownership of deliverables.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
  • Experience with ERP systems, such as Oracle, and exposure to process improvement initiatives.
