Ready to be an important part of our Major Component Exchange team as a Major Component Exchange Engineer?

As a Major Component Exchange (MCE) Engineer, you will play a key technical role in the development, planning, execution, and closeout of wind turbine major component exchange projects. From initial assessment and project definition through field execution, commissioning, and final documentation, you will oversee the engineering aspects of MCE work and help ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements, approved procedures, and quality standards. You will apply deep Vestas turbine technology and MCE experience as the primary technical focus of the role. Experience with other platforms is valued for multi-brand work. You will help project teams resolve field issues and improve the repeatability and quality of major component exchanges.

Are You Looking to:

  • Play a critical role in the development, execution, and technical management of Major Component Exchange projects?

  • Provide engineering leadership throughout the full MCE project lifecycle, from initial concept and condition assessment through final commissioning and closeout?

  • Apply advanced Vestas turbine and MCE expertise as the primary platform focus, with other OEM experience considered an advantage?

  • Define the technical scope, work methods, special tooling, rigging, crane, and component-handling requirements needed for successful execution?

  • Set MCE technician teams up for success through practical field experience, clear technical direction, and timely troubleshooting support?

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, EHS, Quality, Procurement, project management, crane providers, and site teams to deliver safe and efficient MCE projects?

Are You Ready to:

  • Lead and support the technical planning and field execution of major component exchanges primarily on Vestas wind turbine platforms, including gearboxes, generators, main bearings, main shafts, hubs, blades, transformers, and other major wind turbine components.

  • Interpret Vestas technical documentation and develop, review, and improve work instructions, method statements, lift sequences, tooling lists, inspection plans, and technical execution packages for MCE activities.

  • Determine and verify requirements for special tooling, lifting fixtures, rigging, hydraulic equipment, torque and tensioning tools, cranes, component transport, storage, laydown areas, and related site interfaces.

  • Evaluate critical mechanical interfaces, including shafts, flanges, fits, bearings, bolted joints, alignment, lubrication, tolerances, torque values, and component installation requirements.

  • Provide field teams with technical briefings, mentoring, troubleshooting, and engineering support; evaluate field deviations and coordinate approved technical resolutions when site conditions differ from the plan. Establish and verify quality hold points, inspections, measurements, torque and alignment records, commissioning checks, punch-list closure, and final technical documentation.

  • Support the review and interpretation of condition monitoring data, vibration trends, borescope findings, oil analysis, inspection results, and failure history to assess major component condition and help determine whether and when replacement is required; capture lessons learned for future MCE projects.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of technical education and extensive wind turbine MCE experience may be considered.

  • Five or more years of wind industry experience, including at least three years of direct experience planning, supervising, engineering, or executing major component exchanges.

  • Minimum three years of direct technical experience with Vestas wind turbine technology, including responsibility for Vestas MCE planning, execution, field support, or supervision, is required. Experience with Siemens/Siemens Gamesa, MHI, or other wind turbine platforms is preferred.

  • Strong mechanical knowledge of wind turbine gearboxes, generators, main bearings, shafts, flanges, bolted connections, alignment, lubrication systems, and related drivetrain components.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of special tooling, lifting fixtures, rigging, cranes, hydraulic systems, torque and tensioning equipment, and the practical site requirements associated with major lifts.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, technical specifications, inspection reports, condition monitoring information, and borescope findings, and to convert them into clear execution requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to guide field teams, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, solve problems under field conditions, and travel to project sites as needed, including up to 50% travel during project execution.

  • We care about the safety and wellbeing of every one of our employees. To help ensure their safety, any employees climbing a wind turbine must use a Personal Fall Arrest System, and may not exceed the system’s maximum weight capacity of 309 lbs. This weight must include the individual, their tooling, uniform, and personal protective equipment. Based on these safety requirements and the standard weight of equipment, employees who climb wind turbines may not exceed a maximum personal body weight of 260 lbs.

 What You’ll Get:

  • 401k with fully vested, generous company match available after 6 months.

  • Generous PTO; excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits; and competitive compensation.

  • Personalized and Ongoing Training.
