The Opportunity
“Join our z/OS Systems Engineering team in a technical, hands-on role where you'll be working with cutting-edge mainframe technology and supporting mission-critical infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with experts in the z/OS ecosystem, developing deep technical expertise in hardware, system utilities, and operational management in a dynamic, high-performance environment.” – Director, Mainframe Operations.
What You’ll Contribute
- Expertise in managing and maintaining z/OS hardware, LPARs, IPL, and HMC systems.
- Lead system-level problem-solving, including disaster recovery (DR) activities and system restarts.
- Automate tasks using REXX and perform system monitoring and analysis through SMF and USS.
- Manage VSAM datasets and oversee SMP/E installations and updates.
- Efficiently use TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, and CLIST to manage and troubleshoot operational environments.
- Collaborate across teams to support key processes and recommend system improvements.
- Participate in upgrading and supporting Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products.
- Ensure adherence to security protocols, audit requirements, and systems integrity.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
What We’re Seeking
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience with z/OS hardware and mainframe systems.
- Deep knowledge of key mainframe technologies, including LPAR, IPL, HMC, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, and CLIST.
- Proven expertise in system monitoring, disaster recovery (DR) activities, and operational troubleshooting.
- Experience in REXX scripting, SMF, USS, and VSAM management.
- Hands-on experience in TCP/IP, RACF, MQ, and CICS is a plus.
- Ability to support complex environments, including Mono/Parallel Sysplex, DFSMS, and catalog management.
- Demonstrated capability to lead system-level problem resolution and multi-disciplinary coordination.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to system optimization and improvements.
