THE ROLE
1touch.io, now part of Everpure, develops technology that helps organizations discover, understand and protect sensitive data across complex enterprise environments. As part of Everpure's growing focus on data management and intelligence, we are expanding our engineering team in Prague and looking for a Java Software Engineer with experience working in IBM mainframe environments.
You will help modernize how our platform discovers, accesses and processes data on IBM z/OS, replacing legacy COBOL/REXX functionality with Java-based solutions. This is primarily a hands-on Java engineering role, where your understanding of mainframe systems and infrastructure will be equally valuable. You will work on developing a production-grade Java agent running on z/OS, contribute to backend services and APIs, and help shape the technical approach to mainframe data discovery. You will be part of a broader Java engineering team, collaborating with colleagues across engineering, architecture and product development.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, develop and maintain Java applications and components, including software running on IBM z/OS.
- Contribute to the modernization of legacy COBOL/REXX functionality using Java.
- Build capabilities to discover, access and process data across mainframe environments, including DB2, IMS, VSAM, QSAM and other data sources.
- Develop backend services, APIs and integrations supporting our data-discovery platform.
- Work on engineering challenges involving performance, reliability, scalability and data processing.
- Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions, helping evaluate different approaches and solutions.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Java engineering, platform, infrastructure and product teams.
- Share knowledge and support the team's understanding of mainframe technologies and development practices.
- We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Prague office in compliance with Everpure's policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Strong hands-on experience developing applications and backend software using Java.
- Experience designing, developing, testing and maintaining production software.
- Practical experience working with IBM mainframe environments, particularly z/OS, and an understanding of their architecture and infrastructure.
- Understanding of how applications interact with mainframe systems, including data access, processing and integration.
- Familiarity with some mainframe technologies such as DB2, IMS, VSAM, QSAM, JCL, datasets or similar.
- Experience developing APIs, backend services or enterprise software systems.
- Strong programming fundamentals and the ability to investigate and solve complex technical problems.
- Ability to collaborate across teams, communicate technical ideas and contribute to engineering decisions.
