Job Description:Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for a seasoned Cybersecurity Software Engineer with a hacker’s curiosity and a defender’s discipline, balancing bulletproof system reliability with a smooth user experience.
This role is in the Mainframe DevOps value stream, as a software engineer for one of our flagship products, Gen (formerly known as COOL:Gen or CA Gen). Gen is a low-code, model-driven development environment for enterprise applications. Gen enables global enterprises to generate and deploy applications in a single, integrated development environment for multiple platforms.

The Opportunity
As a Mainframe Cybersecurity Software Engineer (ICB 5), you will take ownership of the security posture, core architecture, and ongoing evolution of Gen (formerly known as COOL: Gen or CA Gen). This is a high-impact, visible role where you will apply your advanced cybersecurity expertise to influence all levels of product delivery. You will guide architectural design, spearhead secure coding standards, and act as a technical mentor to other engineers. This is a hands-on technical role: you will write code, lead code reviews, and influence testing strategy. Concurrently, you will serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader—championing security best practices in partnership with product management and customers.

What You’ll Do
Research, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions to maintain and enhance Gen's core product capabilities.
Troubleshoot and fix customer cases that have been escalated to engineering.
Drive technical design to ensure robust security standards, while retaining a simple user experience.
Champion engineering excellence across the Mainframe Software Division, particularly for the DevOps value stream.
Act as a public-facing subject matter expert by authoring technical blogs, webinars, and documentation on security best practices.
Offer thought leadership directly to enterprise customers, helping them navigate complex security standards and advising them on Gen modernization strategies.
What You Need
Minimum of 12 years of experience in software development.
BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent engineering degree.
Deep expertise and hands-on coding experience in at least two of the following: IBM Assembler, COBOL, PL/I, C, C++, Java, .NET.
Experience with mainframe(z/OS) and distributed environments (Windows, Unix, Linux) and related security best practices.
Understanding of complex microservices, APIs, databases, and Client-Server communication.
Demonstrated experience implementing cybersecurity principles (e.g., cryptography, secure coding practices, access controls) and using industry-standard products like RACF, ACF2, Top Secret, and TLS.
Strong command of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and interlanguage communications (ILC) across hybrid environments.
Additional skills that will benefit your efforts
Expertise in deep-dive debugging, including reading system dumps, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, and executing performance tuning.
Experience executing penetration testing, including triage and remediation.
Thorough understanding of z/OS system components and sub-systems, including z/OS Language Environment (LE), ISPF, CICS, IMS, WebSphere Liberty, and DB2.
Experience working with enterprise middleware and network protocols, such as ECI, TCP/IP or IBM MQ.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is USD 129,400.00 To USD 207,000.00
