Machinist III - IV
Farr West, UT
Job Summary:
Under direct or limited supervision, builds and machines parts from blueprints using a variety of manual and CNC machines. Positions are available for individuals ranging from entry-level machinists to highly skilled machinists with advanced setup and programming experience.
Essential Functions:
- Set up and take down projects.
- Machine parts from blueprints and work instructions.
- Safely operate manual and CNC machining equipment.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform inspections using standard measuring equipment.
- Support training and continuous improvement efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Blueprint Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of geometric tolerancing preferred.
- Ability to learn increasingly complex print requirements.
Math Skills:
- Basic shop math required.
- Trigonometry skills preferred depending on position and experience level.
Tolerance:
- Ability to work within print requirements.
- Tolerance expectations will vary based on machine qualifications and experience level.
Machines:
- Experience operating manual or CNC equipment preferred.
- Ability to learn and become qualified on additional machines.
- Setup responsibilities will vary based on experience and demonstrated skill level.
General:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
- Ability to work overtime when necessary.
- Ability to use and read standard measuring instruments.
- Takes ownership of quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Previous machining experience preferred but not required.
- Technical schooling or equivalent experience preferred.
- Ability to use basic measuring instruments.
- Ability to lift up to 49 pounds.
Additional Information:
Candidates may be considered for placement at various skill levels based on experience, machine qualifications, technical ability, and demonstrated performance.
Day Shift Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm
(possible overtime when needed)
Skills Required
- Technical schooling in advanced machine shop and three years hands-on experience or six years working as a machinist
- Ability to read and understand most blueprints; basic knowledge of geometric tolerancing
- Hold tolerances: ±.010, ±15 minutes angularity, .005 perpendicular (machine permitting); perform general layout within .015
- Minimum tolerance ability (listed in minimum requirements): ±.030, ±30 minutes angularity, .010 perpendicular (machine permitting); general layout knowledge
- Able to run and set up machines (must be able to run ~50% of machines and perform own set-ups with little help)
- Working knowledge of speeds and feeds to extend tool life
- Ability to use and read basic measurement instruments
- Safely operate an overhead crane
- Basic math skills including fractions and trigonometry (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Ability to work with little supervision and work overtime when necessary
- Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and take ownership of product quality and schedule
