Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Machinist to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Machining position performs a variety of routine and non-routine machining assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.  The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.


Salary: $22- $30/hr DOE 


Responsibilities
  • Work with composite pre-pregs to cut material kits and prepare for testing


  • Perform composite panel fabrication and vacuum bagging


  • Mixing of adhesives for bonding or casting operations


  • Operate autoclave for curing of composite


  • Uses cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications


  • Designs, sets-up and performs a variety of machining tasks according to customer specifications and requirements


  • Requires little supervision and technical input of a Department Manager, Principal Machinist,


  • Project Coordinator or Engineer


  • Possesses the ability to mentor and train machinists who have less experience through effective communication of machining

    process and technical data


  • Maintains equipment and schedules preventative maintenance


  • Gathers and records dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements


  • Works with composites materials including carbon fiber, kevlar, fiberglass, resins


  • Produces testing’s specimens according to drawings and instructions


  • Use tables saws, bandsaws, conventional and CNC mills, router table, surface grinder

  • Ability to transfer technical knowledge of machining procedures/requirements and successfully satisfy and meet customer expectations
Skills / Qualifications
  • Prefer experience in layup, bonding, machining of composites (2-5 years)


  • Handling of Pre-Preg and fabric materials used in c omposites manufacturing


  • Packaging and storage of temperature sensitive materials, and record keeping for out-time and shelf life


  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety


  • HS diploma or GED certificate preferred; College or vocational school coursework welcomed


  • Must have earned Associate degree in related testing or science field and/or possess 3-6 years of experience in a machining shop environment


  • In-depth understanding of specimen preparation


  • May have earned Associate degree mechanical related field


  • Depth of understanding related to machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts


  • Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol


  • Strong computer skills


  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
