Element has an opportunity for a Composites Machinist to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Machining position performs a variety of routine and non-routine machining assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision. The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.
Salary: $22- $30/hr DOE
Responsibilities
Work with composite pre-pregs to cut material kits and prepare for testing
Perform composite panel fabrication and vacuum bagging
Mixing of adhesives for bonding or casting operations
Operate autoclave for curing of composite
Uses cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications
Designs, sets-up and performs a variety of machining tasks according to customer specifications and requirements
Requires little supervision and technical input of a Department Manager, Principal Machinist,
Project Coordinator or Engineer
Possesses the ability to mentor and train machinists who have less experience through effective communication of machining
process and technical data
Ability to transfer technical knowledge of machining procedures/requirements and successfully satisfy and meet customer expectations
Maintains equipment and schedules preventative maintenance
Gathers and records dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements
Works with composites materials including carbon fiber, kevlar, fiberglass, resins
Produces testing’s specimens according to drawings and instructions
Use tables saws, bandsaws, conventional and CNC mills, router table, surface grinder
Prefer experience in layup, bonding, machining of composites (2-5 years)
Handling of Pre-Preg and fabric materials used in c omposites manufacturing
Packaging and storage of temperature sensitive materials, and record keeping for out-time and shelf life
Working knowledge of laboratory safety
HS diploma or GED certificate preferred; College or vocational school coursework welcomed
Must have earned Associate degree in related testing or science field and/or possess 3-6 years of experience in a machining shop environment
In-depth understanding of specimen preparation
May have earned Associate degree mechanical related field
Depth of understanding related to machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts
Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol
Strong computer skills
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
