Summary:

Machinists are responsible for using milling machines, grinders, lathes, and other machine tools to produce precision metal parts. They interpret blueprints and specifications, calculate the appropriate areas for boring or cutting, determine optimal speeds, and plan the sequence of operations. Machinists also detect and troubleshoot issues by identifying specific noises or excessive vibrations during machine operation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working according to the production schedule and meet due dates
  • Safely and efficiently operate a variety of machines
  • Basic ability to read and interpret prints
  • Understand and calculate appropriate feeds and speed
  • Inventory control of machine parts
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement efforts
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

  1. LEAN Principles

 

Skills-

  1. Bandsaw operation
  2. Layout techniques
  3. Cleaning & deburring processes
  4. Soft/hard straightening press operation
  5. Tape measure reading (accurate within 1/16 of an inch)
  6. Alloy identification
  7. Accurate gauge usage
  8. Safe crane usage, including chain, sling, magnet rigging, and forklift operation (as needed)
  9. Basic understanding of prints, sketches, and drawings

 

Abilities-

  1. Foster and work within a team environment
  2. Actively participate in safety programs and comply with all safety policies
  3. Follow written and verbal instructions effectively
  4. Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  5. Maintain a clean and safe work area
  6. Display attention to detail and consistently follow Standard Work Instructions when completing tasks
  7. Communicate effectively with peers, supervisor, customers, vendors, and other departments
  8. Actively participate in 6S and other Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts

 

Education and/or Experience:   

  1. High School Diploma or GED required
  2. Vocational or technical training preferred
