This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about solving hard problems at the intersection of software, electrical systems, and physical manufacturing — developing intelligent machine solutions from first principles through production deployment. You will lead and contribute to cutting-edge automation initiatives across the Gas Power global supply chain, directly impacting safety, quality, cycle time, and cost.Job DescriptionEssential FunctionsControls & Machine Programming
- Architect and develop machine control solutions from scratch — PLC logic, motion control sequences, CNC g-code functions, and custom automation software tailored to manufacturing and repair processes.
- Write, test, and optimize PLC programs (ladder logic, structured text, function block diagrams), CNC G-code operations
- Develop HMI and operator interface applications that provide intuitive control, real-time process feedback, and data logging capabilities.
- Design closed-loop control systems integrating sensors, feedback devices, and process data to achieve precise, repeatable machine performance.
- Own the full software development lifecycle for machine control projects — requirements, architecture, coding, testing, documentation, and deployment.
- Program and configure vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, or custom OpenCV/Python-based solutions) and 3D scanning platforms (structured light, laser line, CT, or coordinate-based) to perform real-time image analysis, pattern recognition, and dimensional verification.
- Integrate vision and scan outputs directly into machine control logic to enable adaptive, intelligent manufacturing responses — automated accept/reject decisions, in-process corrections, guided repair, adaptive machining, and closed-loop quality control.
- Develop image processing and point cloud algorithms to extract precise, reliable measurements and inspection data from complex gas turbine geometry.
- Leverage AI/ML techniques for image-based anomaly detection, feature recognition, and process optimization where applicable.
- Physically wire, assemble, and commission electrical control panels, sensor networks, and machine integration hardware — fully hands-on from design through deployment.
- Run and operate manufacturing equipment directly during development, testing, and process qualification phases.
- Troubleshoot and debug control systems, electrical circuits, vision systems, and automated equipment on the shop floor in real time.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and repair engineers to translate process requirements into intelligent machine solutions.
- Support NPI and repair programs by participating in machine runoffs, process qualification, and production trials.
- Provide technical guidance on controls, vision, scanning, and automation technologies to global service centers and new make sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field with a minimum of 2 years' experience in industrial controls, machine vision or automation systems— OR a high school diploma / GED plus a minimum of 4 years of industrial hands-on experience in controls, machine vision, or automation systems.
- 1 year of programming experience of CNC machines in one or more of the following: PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, Mitsubishi),Vision system programming (Cognex VisionPro, Keyence, OpenCV, Python/C++), 3D scan processing software (Polyworks, GeoMagic, VXelements, or similar)
- 1 year of hands-on electrical experience, mechatronics— control panel wiring, field device installation, and machine integration.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, automation, or industrial controls environment.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience supporting manufacturing processes / environments – shop floor experience
- Deep programming capability — able to independently develop complex control logic, vision algorithms, and data processing pipelines with minimal oversight
- Experience developing adaptive or intelligent machine systems that respond dynamically to sensor, vision, or scan data
- Familiarity with machine tool control platforms — Fanuc, Siemens 840D, Mitsubishi CNC
- Experience with 3D metrology workflows — scanning, point cloud processing, deviation analysis, and CAD comparison
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols — EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC-UA
- Exposure to AI/ML techniques applied to image analysis, anomaly detection, or process optimization is a strong plus
- Comfortable reading and authoring electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Prior hands-on experience operating EDM, milling, grinding, or laser manufacturing equipment
- Gas turbine or aviation turbomachinery experience is a plus
- Strong problem-solver who thrives in ambiguous, development-stage environments
💡 This role is built for the engineer who codes, builds, and runs. You'll develop sophisticated vision algorithms and machine control architectures, then walk to the shop floor and commission the hardware yourself. If you're energized by the full journey from concept to working machine — this is your role.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
