RoleDepop is looking for a talented Machine Learning Manager to lead our Core ML team in the UK. In this role, you will lead a team of ML Scientists, building and scaling foundational machine learning models and platforms that power multiple product and marketing use cases across Depop.
ResponsibilitiesYou will:
Lead and mentor a team of ML Scientists, setting clear technical direction and fostering an inclusive, experiment-driven culture.
Partner with Product Managers and other stakeholders to translate cross-functional business needs into an actionable Core ML roadmap that enables product velocity and measurable impact.
Work closely with MLOps and platform partners to embed best practices and efficient ML workflows, covering CI/CD, feature management, model monitoring, and reliability.
Collaborate with other ML teams across Depop, sharing models, tooling, and insights, and enabling reuse of foundational capabilities such as embeddings and shared services.
Stay on the pulse of new research in areas such as multimodal representation learning, computer vision, and NLP, champion responsible AI best practices, and communicate technical insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Skills and Experience
Significant experience working in Machine Learning, delivering models that solve industry-scale problems, with experience leading a team of ML Scientists and/or ML Engineers.
Strong understanding of modern machine learning techniques
Proven track record of delivering ML models end-to-end, including data strategy, training, deployment, and monitoring.
Experience working in cloud-based and MLOps environments, with strong Python skills and hands-on experience using major deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch), with an appreciation for building scalable, reliable ML systems.
Strong command of experimental design, offline evaluation, and online A/B testing to guide product and platform strategy.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ML concepts clearly for product partners, engineers, and senior stakeholders.
Bonus points
Experience building shared or platform-style ML systems
Experience with Databricks and PySpark
Experience working with AWS or another cloud platform (GCP/Azure)
