Position Summary:

The Clinician shall conduct mental health assessments for all UC in care, as well as provide ongoing individual therapy and crisis intervention. Clinician provides direct counseling services to the child as required/needed. Clinician is responsible to collaborate with program Case Managers for all plan development and reporting to ORR/Case Coordinators.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for strong collaborative relationships with the Case Managers working with the UC to reunify them with a family member/sponsor. This includes Clinician constant and open communication with Case Managers regarding family/sponsor relationships and mental health status in accordance with ORR policy.
  • Is sensitive to and supportive of the children’s cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
  • Determines complexity of cases and provides clinical insights on referrals and post-release services.
  • Works on case mitigations and develops post-release care plans.
  • Plans with the Lead Clinician, Case Managers and ORR for conferences, staffing meetings to discuss service plans, progress and other issues concerning youth.
  • Provides ongoing mental health assessment as per UC documentation regulations as well as developmentally and culturally sensitive and trauma-informed therapy services. Also, leads regular psycho-educational groups with placed UC.
  • Assists in the process of, and assists as needed, in the coordination of discharge or transfer of each child in collaboration with program staff and ensures the delivery of appropriate summaries  in each case.
  • Is responsible for the respective UC Portal documentation and oversees the preparation of summaries, maintenance of current progress notes and ensures relevant information regarding significant incidents are incorporated into the case record and are placed into UC Portal.
  • Ensures that both paper case records and electronic case records are stored and protected to remain in compliance with CHP and ORR procedures.
  • Ensures that they are maintaining individual therapeutic relationships with each UC.
  • Responsible for continued professional development through attendance at in-service seminars, participation in conferences and workshops and/or continued study at higher education institutions.
  • Remains current regarding Children’s Home policies, OCFS policies, and ORR policies to ensure program compliance.
  • Maintains on-call responsibilities to the UC program including calls from ORR.
  • Accepts any other tasks as delegated by the Program Director or as required by ORR.

Schedule: Monday & Wednesday 10am-6pm, Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 9am-5pm, include rotating on call responsibilities, Saturday-Sunday OFF.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:

  • MSW and 2 years of postgraduate direct service delivery experience; a Master’s degree in psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science in which clinical experience is a program requirement. It is required that clinicians be licensed or are license eligible.
  • Proficient in the Spanish Language.

PREFERRED Qualifications: 

  • Related clinical experience
  • Must be available to travel within the U.S. for reunifications for exigent circumstances as needed (i.e: separated or extremely traumatized tender-aged children).

Skills Required
