Software System Engineer (Back Office System)[What you will be working on]
You will be part of the back-office development team to be involved in the software modernisation of the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) backend system supporting Singapore's public transport network. You will help design, migrate, build, test, deploy and support secure and reliable applications on AWS in the Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) environment. You should be comfortable learning business processes, working with different teams and resolving issues.
What You'll Do:
- Analyse requirements, design, develop, test and maintain the applications.
- Prepare and maintain software lifecycle deliverables, including requirements, software architecture and design documents, interface specifications, source code, testing specifications, operations and maintenance manuals, training manuals and other documentation required under the Authority’s adopted standards.
- Troubleshoot production and test-environment issues, investigate defects and improve application quality and performance.
- Collaborate with other developers, users and testers to clarify requirements and resolve design or testing issues.
[What we are looking for]
Knowledge in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience in:
- At least three years of software development experience, including one full SDLC and preparation of related documentation.
- Hands-on development and support of Java applications using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
- Experience with AWS services such as Amazon EKS, DynamoDB and RDS.
Knowledge of:
- Modern Java, preferably Java 21 or later.
- Containerised applications, Kubernetes and GitLab CI/CD.
- PostgreSQL, database transactions and batch processing.
- MQTT and messaging platforms such as Solace and IBM MQ.
Added advantages:
- Experience in GCC or another regulated cloud environment.
- Experience with AFC, high-volume transactions or other mission-critical systems.
- Experience with Dynatrace for application monitoring.
- Skills in creation of application-monitoring dashboards and data analysis.
- Knowledge of cloud security, including least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, secure APIs, vulnerability scanning and remediation.
- Familiarity with the responsible use of AI-assisted coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

Skills Required
- Degree or qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
- At least three years of software development experience
- Experience completing at least one full software development lifecycle and preparing related documentation
- Hands-on Java application development and support using Spring Framework and Spring Boot
- Experience with AWS services, including Amazon EKS, DynamoDB, and RDS
- Knowledge of modern Java, preferably Java 21 or later
- Knowledge of containerized applications, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI/CD
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, database transactions, and batch processing
- Knowledge of MQTT and messaging platforms such as Solace and IBM MQ
