The Senior, RF Test Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining system verification and validation plans of the Telesat LEO constellation communication system. In addition, they will participate in the various testing activities across the Telesat Leo system with vendors and other partners and responsible for maintaining the lab. This position will be moved to our new Gatineau facility in 2026.
Main Responsibilities
- In this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the system verification and validation of the Telesat LEO system
- Develop system and sub system verification matrices against system requirements
- Coordinate and participate in RF and system level testing activities including test planning, execution and reporting
- Serve as an RF expert and support other technical staff as required
- Plays an active role in component and subsystem design and test activities
- Configuring test equipment like Satellite Link Emulators, signal generator, spectrum analyzer etc.
- Ensure product under test meets technical, functional, performance and business requirements
- Keep the lab functional and update to date with known hardware and software configuration to execute various test scenarios as necessary
- Work with various Antenna Vendors to integrate User Terminals
- Work with partners and other vendors in various test campaigns
Education and Experience Required
- B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in satellite communications
- Minimum 10 years of work experience in Satellite RF communication systems with strong exposure on modulation and coding used in modern standards like DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in RF testing in Ka bands
- Hands on experience using RF test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, satellite channel emulator,)
- Strong understanding of RF engineering Principles and Design Practices
- Experience in various Antenna types like Flat Panel and Dual parabolic.
- Demonstrated understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation and coding and its impact on the satellite link performance
- Experience with satellite link budget analyses with good understanding of effects of impairments on the link performance
- Experience in test case and defect tracking tools (Jira, Jama)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various traffic generators like Ixia, Spirent
- Experience in MEF standards
- Proficient with MATLAB, python.
- Experience with BUC/LNB and various Antenna technologies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
