The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is a cabinet level state agency dedicated to serving Veterans and their families by assisting them in securing state and federal benefits. MDVA has two major divisions each headed by a Deputy Commissioner who reports to the MDVA Commissioner.
The Veteran’s Healthcare Division operates five (5) Veterans Homes located throughout the State and is responsible to provide quality care services for Veterans and qualified spouses. The Homes offer a wide continuum of care, including domiciliary, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, dementia/Alzheimer, and an Adult Day Care program. Each Home is managed by a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
The MDVA operates on a biennial budget cycle which consists of State general funds, Federal Funds, miscellaneous revenues and donations. The Healthcare Division’s biennial budget is $193 million; it employs about 1300 staff working throughout the State.
This position is located at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.
Job DescriptionThis is an intermittent (as needed) position. There are no set hours and/or work days. Shifts may vary
between days, evenings, and overnights and include weekends
and holidays.
Deliver licensed practical nursing (LPN) care within the
LPN scope of practice, as defined by the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, for
cognitively and physically disabled residents, chemical dependency, mental
illness, and co-occurring disorders. Work collaboratively with an
interdisciplinary team to promote the well-being, health, and safety of
residents in a person centered, room and care environment
Minimum
Qualifications:
- Licensed in Minnesota as a
Practical Nurse, in good standing - Ability to communicate
effectively, follow oral and written instructions, and write legible
notes - Computer experience sufficient
to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as
email - Current Basic Life Support
(BLS) or Certified Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Training in or experience with
chemical dependency, mental illness, and co-occurring
disorders - Experience working with
Veterans - Experience working with
vulnerable adults and maintaining confidentiality
