Job Title: Lotus Notes / HCL Domino Application Developer – Database Support
Location: Bangalore (Work from Office / Hybrid as applicable)
Work Timing: US Eastern Hours / Flexibility for US Support and Major Incidents
Experience: 5+ Years
Engagement Type: Long-term / Multi-year (Contract / Full-time)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Lotus Notes / HCL Domino Application Developer to provide ongoing application support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and controlled enhancements for a long-standing US-based manufacturing client's legacy Notes/Domino application estate.
The client has approximately 600 databases, of which approximately 100–120 active applications support business processes across R&D, Manufacturing, Finance, and HR for approximately 600–700 users. Many applications were developed by business users over the past 20 years, with designs ranging from Notes R4 through R9, and several original application owners are no longer with the organization.
The role requires strong ability to understand undocumented legacy applications, safely implement business-requested changes, maintain forms and workflows, manage application security, and support post-upgrade remediation. The client is upgrading its Domino environment from Domino 9 to Domino 14, with HCL Notes 12 currently in production and Notes 14 in testing.
The role is primarily focused on care and feeding of existing applications, application stability, controlled maintenance, documentation, and production support rather than greenfield development.
Critical Responsibilities
Application Development & Maintenance
Own application change requests from requirement clarification through development, testing, validation, documentation, and closure.
Analyze business requirements and modify existing applications using Domino Designer, including forms, fields, labels, views, folders, subforms, shared fields, shared elements, sections, actions, and outlines.
Maintain shared elements such as approver and supervisor lists used across multiple applications.
Create and maintain annual versions of applications that use year-specific databases by copying and validating application designs into new databases.
Safely modify legacy applications while minimizing regression and unintended impact to existing business processes.
Workflow & Approval Support
Maintain and modify workflow and approval applications supporting R&D, Manufacturing, Finance, and HR processes.
Update approval routing when approvers, supervisors, or business owners leave or change roles.
Modify @Formula logic, Simple Actions, buttons, mail notifications, document routing, and folder movement associated with workflow stages.
Ensure documents are routed correctly to the next approver, appropriate folder, and required business process stage.
Troubleshoot workflow and approval issues and validate end-to-end application behavior after changes.
Access, Security & Administration
Manage and troubleshoot Domino application ACLs, roles, Readers fields, Authors fields, and section-level access.
Maintain section access formulas and application-level security logic.
Support the conversion of access from named individuals to Domino Directory groups to simplify ongoing administration.
Troubleshoot application access, authorization, and security-related issues in coordination with Domino Administrators.
Domino Upgrade & Post-Upgrade Support
Support application remediation associated with the client's Domino 9 to Domino 14 upgrade.
Troubleshoot application issues identified following the Domino server upgrade and make only the required application-level changes.
Validate application functionality following platform changes and coordinate infrastructure-related issues with the Domino Administration team.
Support minor web-enablement changes for selected applications where browser access is required.
Legacy Application Analysis & Knowledge Management
Analyze undocumented legacy applications and develop an understanding of their purpose, business owner, design, workflow, ACL, dependencies, and operating behavior.
Document application knowledge and build a maintainable support knowledge base for the application estate.
Identify inactive, obsolete, and orphaned applications and support application retirement activities.
Support extraction of data from applications being retired into formats or repositories such as Excel, CSV, SQL, or SharePoint, where required.
Replication & Production Support
Understand Domino replication and clustered environments sufficiently to ensure application design changes are correctly propagated across applicable replicas.
Support applications across the client's three-server clustered environment consisting of primary, replica, and backup servers.
Work tickets through ServiceNow, maintain accurate ticket updates, and provide clear documentation of diagnosis, actions, validation, and closure.
Coordinate with client Domino Administrators, Atlas delivery/support teams, and business stakeholders to ensure timely and controlled resolution.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on Lotus Notes / HCL Domino application development experience in production environments.
Strong hands-on experience with Domino Designer, including forms, subforms, views, folders, shared fields/elements, sections, actions, and outlines.
Strong command of @Formula language and Simple Actions.
Working knowledge of LotusScript.
Strong understanding of Domino security, including ACLs, roles, Readers fields, Authors fields, section access formulas, and Domino Directory groups.
Proven experience supporting workflow and approval applications, including mail notifications, routing logic, multi-level approvals, and document movement.
Ability to understand and safely modify undocumented legacy applications, including applications originally developed on Notes R4 through R9.
Understanding of Domino replication and clustering and the impact of application design changes across replicas.
Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving capability.
Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical business users and translate business requirements into controlled application changes.
Demonstrated discipline in production change management, including design backup, testing, validation, documentation, and controlled implementation.
Experience working with structured ticketing and production support processes; ServiceNow experience is preferred.
Preferred / Good-to-Have Qualifications
Domino Administrator experience covering server tasks, Domino Directory, replication, and mail routing.
Experience with Domino 12 or Domino 14 upgrades and post-upgrade application remediation.
Experience with XPages, Domino web enablement, or HCL Nomad.
Experience with DXL export/import.
Experience extracting Notes/Domino data to Excel, SQL, SharePoint, or CSV.
HCL Domino certification.
Experience in manufacturing or consumer products environments.
Critical Success Measures
Accurate and controlled completion of application change requests with minimal regression or business disruption.
High-quality, right-first-time application changes covering forms, workflows, routing, security, and shared elements.
Successful support of applications through the client's Domino 9 to Domino 14 upgrade, with timely identification and remediation of application-level issues.
Zero unauthorized changes to production applications, security controls, ACLs, or workflow routing.
Complete and accurate documentation of supported legacy applications, including business purpose, owner, security model, workflow, dependencies, and known issues.
Increased reuse of Domino Directory groups rather than individual-user access wherever appropriate.
Reduced dependency on individual client Domino Administrators for routine application change requests.
Timely and complete ServiceNow ticket updates, including diagnosis, actions taken, validation, and closure documentation.
Effective knowledge transfer and collaboration with client Domino Administrators and Atlas production support teams.
Progressive identification of inactive, orphaned, and obsolete applications to support application rationalization and retirement.
Reliable support coverage aligned with agreed US Eastern business hours, including escalation support for critical production issues and upgrade-related incidents.

PRIME keeps provider directories accurate, automates credentialing and enrollment, and helps organizations meet compliance and directory accuracy requirements. ComplyScore®: A risk and compliance management platform covering third-party risk management, continuous compliance, and internal risk domains, including a Headless TPRM offering. Used by regulated industries including healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and life sciences across the US, EU, APAC, and India. AInfinity®: An agentic AI automation platform that applies AI to workflows across healthcare and risk and compliance. Beyond our platforms, our IT Services division works alongside client teams and systems, providing managed IT services, infrastructure support, application development, database services, cloud migration, and IT security to organizations that need dependable, hands-on technical partners. We manage 6,000+ database instances, and our platforms are built to hold up at enterprise scale: accurate enough to pass an audit or regulatory review, and simple enough that clients get more value at a lower total cost of ownership than comparable solutions.
