Location Requirement: Ideal candidate will be located in Des Moines or Northwest Iowa (Sioux City/Sioux Falls)
Completes on-site or virtual loss control surveys of current and prospective policyholders’ operations with proficient understanding of exposures and controls. Assesses and analyzes the exposure potential and existing controls. Prepares reports for underwriting about identified exposures and provides detailed explanation of business operations, hazards and controls associated with coverages. Provides tailored services to policyholders.
Essential Functions:
Performs detailed review of moderately complex account information, such as loss drivers, previous recommendations, underwriting file, etc.
Completes on-site or virtual loss control surveys of current and prospective policyholders’ operations with proficient understanding of exposures and controls, across all insured industries.
Assesses and analyzes the exposure potential and existing controls.
Prepares loss control reports for underwriting about identified exposures, such as property, commercial auto, liability, and workers’ compensation.
Provides detailed explanation of business operations, hazards and controls associated with coverages.
Develops written recommendations for policyholders to control hazards and to prevent or reduce exposure to insured losses.
Participates in the process of identifying accounts that would benefit from ongoing, routine service or focused, short-term service.
Analyzes previous losses and current exposures for moderately complex accounts, as assigned by manager, utilizing technical knowledge to develop appropriate service plan.
Consults with policyholders to understand their needs and concerns.
Provides tailored services, such as hazard control assessments, ergonomic surveys or slip and fall surveys, to address loss drivers and exposures while meeting insureds’ needs and documents in a service report.
Communicates loss control services available to prospective accounts, policyholders, and agents.
Trains other Loss Control team members on assigned topics as needed.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in safety, engineering, industrial safety, fire protection or related field or equivalent relevant experience
Two years of relevant loss control or safety experience or related
Successful completion of EMC Loss Control training within six months of accepting role or equivalent
Related Master’s degree or designations preferred, such as certified safety professional, CPCU or relevant market certifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong ability to understand and evaluate risk
Strong knowledge of industrial, construction, fire and commercial automotive safety
Strong understanding of various nationally recognized standards and codes, including OSHA, DOT and NFPA
Strong ability to identify and visualize potential loss exposures
Knowledge of relevant niche markets, such as petroleum marketers, schools, municipalities, or manufacturing preferred
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize deadlines
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent customer relation skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation and presentation skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Travel required; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving
The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either the $70,646.00-$97,367.00 range or the $77,900.00-$107,353.00 range. A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
