Position Summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher for High School Mathematics provides immediate instructional coverage for

assigned high school math courses and ensures continuity of learning during a teacher absence. This position

delivers standards-aligned instruction, maintains a structured classroom, monitors student progress, and

supports student achievement in a safe and orderly learning environment.

This role may include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, intervention, and other assigned high school math

courses. The successful candidate must be ready to step into established systems quickly. The candidate must

also work closely with school leaders and support staff and maintain professional standards for student

supervision, confidentiality, and school operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned to the Louisiana Student Standards for Mathematics and the school's curriculum and pacing.
  • Teach assigned high school math courses using strong lesson design, checks for understanding, guided practice, independent practice, and assessment.
  • Maintain lesson plans, substitute notes, attendance, grades, student progress records, and other required classroom documentation.
  • Differentiate instruction and implement assigned accommodations, modifications, and intervention plans.
  • Create and maintain a safe, orderly, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment.
  • Communicate professionally with administrators, counselors, student support staff, families, and colleagues about student progress and needs.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, transitions, arrival, dismissal, testing, and other school activities.
  • Use school technology systems, learning platforms, and communication tools effectively.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the High School Principal or designee.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in high school mathematics.
  • Meets at least one Louisiana-approved credentialing pathway for service in a nonpublic school setting:
  1. holds a valid Louisiana teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment; or
  2. meets Louisiana nonpublic school instructional staff requirements for the assignment, including a bachelor's degree, a major or equivalent coursework in the teaching area, and required professional education coursework or documented progress toward that coursework; or
  3. is eligible to obtain the Louisiana authorization or temporary credential required for the assignment, including a teaching authorization and, if needed, an appropriate math credential.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required employment clearances, including fingerprint-based criminal history review, DCFS State Central Registry clearance as applicable, and any additional state-mandated eligibility checks.
  • Ability to complete required onboarding and annual compliance trainings.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Louisiana certification in secondary mathematics or a comparable out-of-state teaching credential.
  • Prior successful teaching or long-term substitute experience at the high school level.
  • At least 30 credit hours in mathematics, a graduate degree in mathematics, engineering, or a related science content area, and/or a passing score on the Praxis Secondary Mathematics content exam.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English preferred, particularly the ability to support instruction and communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues in a multilingual school environment.
  • Experience supporting diverse learners, including multilingual students and students with documented accommodations.
  • Experience using student data to adjust instruction and improve achievement.

Compliance and Conditions of Employment

  • The selected candidate must meet all Louisiana nonpublic school employment, credentialing, and eligibility requirements for the position.
  • The selected candidate must complete required onboarding, annual compliance training, mandatory reporter training, and any other training required for the role.
  • The selected candidate must follow school policies and all required workplace, privacy, and student protection standards.
  • Employment is contingent upon verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States, successful completion of required background and child-protection checks, and submission of all required employment documents.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, speak, hear, and actively supervise students throughout the workday.
  • Ability to move through classrooms, hallways, stairwells, and other campus spaces and to respond appropriately in routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to use a computer, projector, telephone, and standard classroom and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and classroom supplies consistent with the needs of the role.
