About Standard Bots

Standard Bots is building the next generation of industrial robots -- hardware that's powerful, affordable, and designed to scale. We're moving fast from prototype to high-volume production, and as our supply chain grows more complex -- more suppliers, more components, more international movement -- we need someone who knows how to navigate the regulatory and logistics landscape without slowing us down. This role is central to that.

Note: This role is onsite at our Glen Cove, NY manufacturing facility

The Role

We're looking for a Logistics & Trade Compliance Specialist to own the import/export function at Standard Bots. That means HTS classification, tariff management, customs filings, freight coordination, and making sure every component we bring in and every product we ship out moves fast, stays compliant, and doesn't cost us more than it should.

This is a detail-oriented role that sits at the intersection of logistics operations and regulatory compliance. You know your way around a tariff schedule, you've dealt with customs brokers and freight forwarders before, and you don't wait for someone else to flag a compliance issue -- you catch it first.

You'll report directly to the Supply Chain Manager.

What You'll Do

Import & Export Operations

- Manage day-to-day import and export activity -- coordinating with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to ensure on-time, compliant movement of goods

- Prepare and review shipping documentation: commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and export control documentation

- Oversee customs entries and clearance processes; resolve holds, delays, or discrepancies with brokers and CBP as needed

- Track inbound shipments and proactively flag delays or disruptions to supply chain and operations teams

Tariff & HTS Classification

- Own HTS code classification for all imported components and finished goods -- maintaining an accurate, up-to-date classification database

- Monitor tariff changes, Section 301 actions, and trade policy developments that affect Standard Bots' supply chain and flag cost or compliance implications to leadership

- Identify and pursue duty mitigation strategies: first sale valuation, tariff engineering, exclusion requests, FTZ utilization, and bonded warehouse programs where applicable

- Support tariff impact analysis for new product introductions and sourcing decisions

Trade Compliance

- Ensure compliance with all applicable import and export regulations: CBP, BIS, OFAC, ITAR/EAR where relevant

- Maintain and improve Standard Bots' trade compliance program -- classification records, denied party screening, export licenses, and audit-ready documentation

- Partner with legal and finance on trade compliance risk assessment and policy development

- Support customs audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies

Freight & Logistics Optimization

- Manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers -- evaluating performance and cost on an ongoing basis

- Analyze freight spend and identify opportunities to reduce cost without sacrificing reliability or compliance

- Support inbound logistics planning in coordination with the supply chain and operations teams

What We're Looking For

- 3-5 years of experience in import/export logistics, trade compliance, or a similar role -- with hands-on experience managing customs entries and HTS classification

- Working knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, tariff schedules, and trade compliance frameworks (CBP, BIS, OFAC, EAR)

- Experience with HTS classification for manufactured goods -- mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical components preferred

- Familiarity with Section 301 tariffs, duty mitigation strategies, and tariff exclusion processes

- Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers

- Detail-oriented and organized -- you maintain clean records, catch errors before they become problems, and document everything

- Comfortable working cross-functionally with supply chain, finance, engineering, and legal

Nice to Have

- Experience with ITAR or EAR export control compliance for hardware or technology products

- Background in a manufacturing, robotics, or industrial hardware environment

- Familiarity with free trade zone (FTZ) operations, bonded warehouses, or first sale valuation programs

- Experience with trade compliance software or customs management systems

- Customs Broker License (CBL) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $110,000. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.

Skills Required

  • 3-5 years experience in import/export logistics or trade compliance
  • Working knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, tariff schedules, and trade compliance frameworks (CBP, BIS, OFAC, EAR)
  • Hands-on experience managing customs entries and HTS classification
  • Familiarity with Section 301 tariffs, duty mitigation strategies, and tariff exclusion processes
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and documentation practices
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with supply chain, finance, engineering, and legal
  • Experience with ITAR or EAR export control compliance for hardware or technology products
  • Background in manufacturing, robotics, or industrial hardware environments
