Lead, plan and ensure performance of Logistics activity at Detroit’s Livonia Logistics Center in coordination with the plant and other external logistics partners. Oversees Material Technicians, Team Leaders, and Specialists. This job description is for dayshift and all products/processes (Engines, Axle, Picking/Shipping, Receiving, Sequencing). Specific area of responsibility will be defined with candidates during selection process.

• Typically requires a Bachelors Degree • Typically requires 5-7 years of relevant experience or 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree • Decision maker for daily activities that are guided by policy, procedures, and business plans with oversight from manager • Demonstrates understanding and application of procedures and concepts related to job field as well as basic knowledge of other related work areas • Coordinates the resources of team and set daily priorities to meet operational objectives • Primarily supervises the work of entry and intermediate level professional individual contributors or large numbers of shop floor employees in operations, manufacturing, and/or logistics • Interprets and administers policies, processes, and procedures • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy to exchange information, handle sensitive issues, and translate, simplify, and clarify information for employees • Responsible for staffing decisions such as hiring, firing, rewarding, training, and developing employees

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Logistics performance within time, budget & quality targets
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment is maintained through a culture of accountability
  • Instill Detroit cultural values in the team & support initiatives for team-building and morale
  • Participate in the selection, training and corrective action of employees within Logistics Operations
  • Lead with customer focus, respond to customer concerns
  • Ensure process adherence and inventory accuracy, carry out root-cause investigations and report on countermeasure effectiveness as-needed
  • Coordinate in- and outbound shipment of material with Plant, suppliers, and cross-functions
  • Ensure effective communication, escalation and SFM concepts
  • Develop training and employee standard work instructions
  • Ensure logistics concepts comply with ergonomic & safety requirements
  • Maintain working time and production records for employees
  • Initiate and lead improvements in processes & working conditions to increase efficiency, quality, ergonomics & safety, incl. participation in projects as-needed
  • Establish & report on KPI’s, SWI’s, perform audits and training as-needed
  • Represent Livonia Warehouse in the development & implementation of Logistics Strategies
  • Develop & implement initiatives for performance improvement
  • In collaboration with cross-functions, develop plan for implementing paperless operations concepts with focus on critical areas.
  • Create and maintain project documentation & reporting concepts using Daimler Truck standard tools (e.g. Project TIP, etc)
  • Manage risks and escalate appropriately, ensure appropriate controls are adhered to for compliance
  • Participate in budget planning and tracking for Operations & projects as-needed

Basic Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or 8+ years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of employees & cross-functions
  • Proficient MS Office & MRP system knowledge/experience (DIBS, PTSI, SAP)
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Demonstrates application of lean principles, behaviors and methodology within project/daily work
  • Ability to multi-task in a well-organized way
  • Experience with shopfloor operations in Logistics or Manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Supply Chain Management, Industrial engineering, or Business Management
