Job Summary:
Directs and coordinates logistics operations activities designed to provide management and customers with logistics support that ensures effective and economical movement of products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tender shipments using Transportation Management System.
  • Spot tender shipments within Transportation Management System, must possess the ability to understand the difference in rates submitted as “per mile” and “flat rates” to make the best financial decision for Hood while maintaining an adequate level of service for our customers.
  • Work with Customer Care, Warehousing, and trucking companies in order to fill the loads to their fullest while ensuring on time delivery with no product cuts to the customer.
  • Report delivery issues (Late deliveries, overage, shortages, damages, delays, etc.) to Customer Care.
  • Analyze customers and freight movements to maximize efficiencies and contain costs.
  • Provide information (memos, spreadsheets, etc.) to Sales, Customer Care and Inventory Resource team as needed regarding challenges and ideas for improvements.
  • Convene meetings and compose notes, letters, and memos and assemble materials for reports.
  • Work with all WF&B warehouses to ensure trucks are arriving on time for appointments and being loaded/unloaded in a timely manner.
  • Explain our invoicing process to each carrier and be able to run reports for open invoices in Transportation Management System.
  • Approve and enter accessorial charges on shipments in Transportation Management System.
  • Differentiate the transportation requirements between each product type (dry, refrigerated, and aseptic).
  • Follow DOT guidelines for arranging HAZMAT shipments.
  • Understand the transportation requirements for Cross Border shipments into Canada and Mexico.
  • Provide feedback to carriers on their monthly scorecards regarding their performance in the previous month. Maintain emails and other miscellaneous documents to support feedback provided to the carriers.
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators as assigned by Logistics Management team.
  • Schedule appointments within Transportation Management System.
  • Monitor shipment weight and report necessary cuts to Customer Care.
  • Available to be on call as needed by the department.
  • Cross train within all assigned functions.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. BS/BA in supply chain management, business administration or related field is preferred.  Relevant experience and certifications in lieu of education would be considered.
  • 2-3 years’ proven logistics operations experience required.
  • Tanker experience preferred.

Skills and Competencies:   

  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to optimize the flow of goods and materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel highly preferred.
  • Excellent time management skills, ensuring efficiency in service delivery at all times.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in logistics software/inventory management systems.
  • Understanding of logistics, supply chain processes, and transportation DOT processes.
  • Familiarity with tracking software (i.e., Macro) is highly preferred. 

Other Information/Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is performed in an office environment with extensive use of computer and phone.
  • Position will require on-call rotation for evenings and weekends.

The pay range for this position is
$66,700$85,300 USD
