Niles Iron & Metal is hiring a Logistics & Scale Manager

This role will lead logistics planning and scheduling, scale operation, and manage cardboard business.  The Logistics & Scale Manager will review incoming scrap by visual inspection or alloy testing to determine grading for material and work directly with vendors to coordinate material shipments.   This role will conduct final inspection of all outgoing shipments to ensure correct material is sent to customers.

The hours of operation for this role are Monday through Friday, 5:00am - 4:00pm, and Saturday, 5:00am - 12:00pm.

What we're looking for:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five plus years’ experience identifying metal composition, scale operation, and scrap yard operations.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of personal accountability.
  • Possess a strong aptitude for managing multiple tasks and assignments with a sense of urgency.
  • Previous leadership experience with demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to motivate, manage and develop direct reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, delegate, follow up, and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively within all levels of the organization.
  • Creative problem solving skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver solutions.

Preferred experience:

  • Seven plus years’ experience identifying metal composition, scale operation, and scrap yard operations.
  • Experience using RIMAS (Shared Logic) operating system.

What you'll focus on:

  • Review incoming scrap by visual inspection or testing (alloy inspector) guns, to determine pricing for industrial accounts.
  • Coordinate with vendor accounts, serving  as a primary contact for logistical needs.
  • Operate the Industrial Scale at the facility and price customers correctly.
  • Manage Paper division.  Source, sell and processes materials, schedule inbound and outbound loads, and manage inventory.
  • Instruct crane operators on what to load for outgoing shipments.
  • Schedule inbound and outbound trucks.
  • Work with vendors to resolve logistical issues.
  • Data entry into RIMAS (Shared Logic).
  • Operate the Peddler Scale at the facility as back-up when needed.
  • Performance management and development of all hourly employees through effective training and coaching. Ensure a safe work environment and contribute to a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust.
  • Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to meet the essential job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description.
