Job Description

Positon: Logistics Manager, Canada

Status: Salary

Reports to: Director Supply Chain, Canada

Location: Calgary, Brantford, St.Thomas (Remote/Hybrid)

The Logistics Manager oversees a $25M logistics and distribution spend across four Canadian business units, managing an in-house fleet and third-party logistics. It negotiates carrier costs, handles freight budgets, and ensures efficient and compliant fleet operations. By implementing robust policies and optimizing asset utilization, it drives continuous improvement and maintains high standards of safety, security, and regulatory compliance. The role involves cross-functional collaboration, data interpretation, problem resolution, and communication (occasional travel may be required) with corporate, branches, distribution centers, and the customer service team.

  • Determine excess costs, implement Cost Take Out (CTO) initiatives to drive operational efficiency and optimize transportation expenses.
  • Oversee asset management, ensuring accurate tracking, budget, maintenance, and optimal use of all fleet assets.
  • Foster relationships with carriers that prove beneficial in financial aspects, service metrics and increase awareness of industry trends.
  • Develop, implement, review, and oversee fleet management policies, ensuring compliance with legal, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and optimize the deployment, maintenance, and utilization of our fleet across 18 branches and 2 distribution centers.
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive dashboard for tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to fleet and transportation management.
  • Create and manage a drivers’ scorecard system to monitor performance and encourage best practices.
  • Educate and train the operational team on fleet management procedures, safety protocols, and efficiency strategies.
  • Collaborate with CBB Logistics Center of Excellence and other cross-functional teams to implement company strategies, enhance overall logistics performance, and resolve any transportation issues.
  • Develop and maintain a RACI chart to clearly define roles and responsibilities within the fleet management process.
  • Continuously analyze logistics data to identify areas for improvement and implement strategic solutions.
  • Recruit, hire, train coach and mentor the team.
  • Manage direct reports providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, encouraging open communication and teamwork.
  • Cascade goals and assist direct reports in establishing clear performance expectations that align with department and company goals and conduct regular performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement and development.
  • Provide continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.
  • Collaborate with IT to design reports and processes that lead to simplification and enhanced business planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in fleet or transportation management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in leadership roles which include direct managerial.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in logistics software and fleet management systems (GeoTab, as example).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience in implementing and managing Cost Take Out (CTO) initiatives.
  • Proven track record of asset management.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective logistics strategies and playbook (processes, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)).
  • Strong knowledge of legal, security, and regulatory requirements related to fleet management.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize key financial data.
  • A strong understanding of truckload, LTL and modes of transportation.
  • Extensive exposure to contract management including the ability of planning, leading negotiations, structuring agreements and build relationships.
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask and maintain by adapting to change.
  • Demonstrates strong ownership and initiative by proactively taking responsibility for tasks and driving projects to successful completion with minimal supervision.
  • Possesses strong consensus-building skills, effectively engaging all stakeholders in a good-faith effort to achieve unanimous agreement and meet collective interests.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and creative problem-solving capabilities for process improvement.
  • Ability to interact with all organizational levels and demonstrate professional presence.
  • Highly motivated, results focused and acts with a high sense of urgency.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Travel as required.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Power BI experience.
  • LPaaS knowledge.
  • Project management experience.
