Job Description

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating routing and trip planning for transportation operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of goods. Duties include planning daily routes, monitoring trip progress, and maintaining communication with drivers and internal teams to support smooth logistics operations. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties  

Route & Trip Planning 

  • Plan, optimize, and schedule daily delivery and pickup routes based on customer locations, delivery windows, and load requirements 

  • Coordinate trip assignments and ensure accurate dispatching of drivers 

  • Use routing software or tools to improve delivery efficiency and reduce costs 

Logistics Coordination 

  • Monitor and track vehicle movements, updating internal teams and customers as needed 

  • Communicate with drivers to provide route updates, resolve on-the-road issues, and ensure compliance with safety and service protocols 

  • Adjust trip plans based on traffic, weather, road conditions, or last-minute delivery changes 

Reporting & Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate records of route plans, trip logs, fuel usage, and delivery confirmations 

  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly reports on trip performance, delays, and route efficiency 

  • Collaborate with the warehouse team to ensure timely loading/unloading and accurate documentation 

Customer Service & Communication 

  • Serve as a liaison between drivers, warehouse staff, and customer service teams 

  • Ensure delivery issues or delays are communicated professionally and resolved promptly 

  • Support inquiries related to delivery times, route status, and shipment tracking 

Compliance & Safety 

  • Ensure all trip planning adheres to DOT regulations, company policies, and safety protocols 

  • Monitor driver hours and rest periods to ensure compliance with transportation laws 

  • Assist in incident reporting and investigations related to routing or delivery execution 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, or related field preferred 

  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or dispatch coordination 

  • Strong knowledge of routing software, GPS tracking systems, and transportation management systems (TMS) 

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills 

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities 

  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and fleet safety standards 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook)

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED
