As the Linux Systems Engineer, the individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing Linux-based systems and solutions within the organization. In this role, the Linux Systems Engineer will work with both Red Hat and Ubuntu distributions, providing technical expertise, support, and guidance to ensure the effective use of Linux systems, containerization technologies, and orchestration platforms.
Responsibilities
- Designs and architects Linux-based solutions to meet organizational requirements
- Installs, configures, and maintains Linux systems, including Red Hat and Ubuntu distributions
- Collaborates with IT teams to integrate Linux solutions with existing systems and infrastructure
- Implements and manages containerization technologies, including Docker
- Designs, deploys, and manages Kubernetes clusters for container orchestration
- Develops and maintains container images and manages container lifecycle
- Monitors and maintains the health, performance, and availability of Linux systems
- Performs regular updates, patches, and upgrades to Linux environments
- Optimizes Linux system performance through effective resource allocation, load balancing, and troubleshooting
- Manages enterprise-level Linux environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
- Implements best practices for system administration, including backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
- Develops and maintains scripts and automation tools to streamline operations and improve efficiency
- Provides technical support to resolve issues related to Linux systems.
- Troubleshoots and resolves problems, including connectivity, performance, and compatibility issues
- Collaborates with helpdesk and other IT teams to ensure quick resolution of technical issues
- Implement security best practices to protect Linux environments, including access controls, encryption, and antivirus measures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of Linux environments, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Generate reports on Linux system performance, usage, and capacity planning.
- Stay updated with the latest Linux technologies, containerization trends, and industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities for improving Linux environments and implement enhancements.
- Participate in capacity planning and disaster recovery planning.
- Performs other tasks as required by OSC Edge and the Government contracting office
Required Qualifications/Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+ and/or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) are required
- Extensive experience with Linux systems administration, including Red Hat and Ubuntu distributions
- Strong understanding of containerization technologies, including Docker
- Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
- Proficiency in enterprise-level Linux management and optimization
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Required Qualifications/Education and Experience
- Additional certifications or experience in related technologies are a plus
