Job Description:

Job Description – Romania Linux System Administrator

The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations, support, and lifecycle management of Linux infrastructure across global environments. This role focuses on maintaining stable, secure, and scalable systems with a strong emphasis on the Red Hat ecosystem, automation, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.

The administrator will support infrastructure architecture, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Linux systems, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on technical role requiring a self-motivated individual who can work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with peers, internal customers, and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support daily operations of Linux servers across global data centers
  • Perform system provisioning, configuration, patching, and upgrades
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu or similar distributions).
  • Manage user accounts, file systems, permissions, and security policies.
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and troubleshoot OS-level issues.
  • Implement and maintain automation using Shell / Python scripting, Configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet.
  • Manage storage, backup, disaster recovery, and system failover procedures.
  • Maintain logs, audit trails, compliance documentation, and change management records.
  • Work with Network teams for deployment and infrastructure improvements.
  • Provide L2 support, root cause analysis, and performance optimization for Linux environments.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of Linux internals, boot process, file systems & networking concepts.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and resolution of Linux OS–related incidents, including performance, kernel, boot, storage, and network issues.
  • Hands-on experience in RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu administration.
  • Expertise in Shell scripting / Bash, and automation tools (Ansible preferred).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools like Nagios, Grafana, Zabbix.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, Firewalls, Load Balancers.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Git,CI/CD, and DevOps workflows is desirable.
  • Ability to manage production outages, troubleshoot performance issues, and optimize infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of system performance monitoring and optimization.
  • Handle L2-level ServiceNow tickets, including incident, request, and change management tasks.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure and security best practice.
  • Support virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) operations including provisioning, reconfiguration, and performance tuning.
  • Maintain documentation of systems, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with L3 and architecture teams for environment improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is often preferred

Basic Hardware & Datacenter Activities:

  • Server racking & stacking
  • Hardware lifecycle tasks (RAID config, BIOS/ILO/iDRAC config, firmware update)
  • Physical troubleshooting (disk replace, memory replace, Power supply replaces)
  • Call logging with the OEM in case of any hardware failures.
  • Datacenter Best Practices (Asset Tracking, Warranty Tracking, Power (PDU’s) , Cooling, Cabling Standards)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication & documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts or On-Call support.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
