KBR is seeking an IT Specialist to join our team and support of NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility under the Range Operations Contract (ROC) System Administration team. This position performs critical IT activities in support of the contract and the NASA mission. This position is responsible for the administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of data center servers, network operating systems, backup systems, directory services, virtual clusters and production database servers. This position ensures that all systems meet the program and security standards for the production environments on the contract. The IT Specialist will operate as a member of a highly motivated IT team to support highly complex projects involving the design, analysis, maintenance and implementation of range systems, equipment, and networks.
The ideal candidate will be able to-do the following:
- Responsible for the administration of one or more of the following data systems: Computer systems hardware, software, information systems & peripheral equipment such as servers, desktops, printers and storage devices.
- Maintains, installs, upgrades and configures data systems, administers operating systems, and maintains basic security and recovery procedures such as scheduling and backups.
- Under general direction, uses specialized knowledge or skills to solve complex and unique problems, or direct the daily activities of a business, technical support, or functional support team.
- Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks.
- Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices.
- May direct resources, prioritize tasks and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
- Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy.
Additional Duties:
- Hands-on provisioning of services, monitoring, upgrading hardware and software, configuration management, and understanding and maintaining peripheral services and software
- Take direction from the team lead and work within a team-environment to achieve organizational goals
- Provide technical solutions to a wide range of problems and user requests through an established trouble ticketing system
Education
- Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comfortable with the Linux or UNIX CLI
- Demonstrated significant experience in Linux Systems Administration (5+ years)
- Highly versed in Linux administration and best practices
- Familiar with enterprise network architectures
- Experience with auditing and securing systems to organizational compliance standards
- Experience with configuration management, patching, updating.
- Fluency in programming/scripting skills for automation in at least two of Bash, Ruby, Python, and Perl
- General understanding of Linux internals (system calls, file systems, processes, etc…)
- General understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols (HTTP, FTP, NFS, etc…)
- Familiarity with large, complex Linux environments
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, REHL6, REHL7
