Background
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Linux & Oracle DBA to take ownership of our application and database infrastructure across both Production and Non-Production environments.
Working closely with the Application Infrastructure Manager, this role will be responsible for the design, administration, optimisation, and continuous improvement of the Linux and Oracle database platforms.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the technical direction, driving performance and reliability, and delivering scalable solutions that support business growth.
Role description
The Linux Sys Admin will be responsible for reviewing and assessing the existing tech stack and take ownership alongside the Application Infrastructure Manager of the ongoing design, support and administration of both the application and Databases stacks across Production and Non-Production environments.
The person will report to the Application Infrastructure Manager within the Technology pillar whilst also partnering with the wider technology team in terms of strategical direction – this person will be proactive, willing to take the initiative and suggest solutions and approaches that will make a real tangible difference to the platform, the team that support it and the wider business as a whole.
Responsibilities

Own the administration, support, and optimisation of Linux servers and Oracle database environments.

Manage Oracle databases including installation, configuration, patching, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.

Work with the Application Infrastructure Manager to define an effective infrastructure support and maintenance strategy.

Support and enhance both Production and Non-Production environments ensuring high availability and resilience, including Out Of Hours support where necessary.

Monitor system and database performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues.

Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and reporting solutions with meaningful operational metrics.

Develop automation tools to help teams make the most out of the available infrastructure.

Support high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., RMAN, Data Guard, clustering, load balancing)

Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and operational procedures
Experience

Typically 6+ years in Linux system administration and Oracle DBA roles.

Strong experience administering Linux systems (e.g., Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS) in virtualised or cloud environments.

Proven hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA (11g/12c/19c or later)

Strong scripting skills (Bash or similar) for automation and system management
