Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Lifting Coordinator & HSE to join our Outage Services team. This is a dual-role position combining detailed lift planning during project preparation with on-site leadership of lifting operations during outages and maintenance activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all lifting operations are planned, coordinated and executed safely, efficiently and in full compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and company procedures. This role is ideal for an experienced lifting professional who is passionate about safety, thrives in a dynamic outage environment and enjoys working collaboratively across engineering and operational teams. 

Regular travel throughout the UK and Ireland will be required, with occasional travel across the wider EMEA region.

Key Responsibilities

Lift Planning

  • Develop comprehensive lift plans for a wide range of lifting operations, ensuring all hazards are identified and suitable control measures are implemented.
  • Prepare lifting-related risk assessments and method statements for outage and maintenance activities.
  • Select appropriate lifting equipment, cranes and accessories, ensuring all equipment is certified, suitable for purpose and compliant with LOLER and PUWER requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance on customer-supplied lifting equipment and tooling requirements for each outage.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers and site teams to gather the information required to produce safe and effective lift plans.
  • Maintain accurate lifting documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of lifting procedures in line with the Company's Quality Management System.

On-Site Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate all lifting operations during outages, ensuring activities are carried out in accordance with approved lift plans.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Crane Operators, Lift Supervisors, Riggers and all personnel involved in lifting activities.
  • Monitor compliance with company procedures, client requirements and relevant UK health and safety legislation.
  • Stop lifting operations immediately where unsafe conditions or unsafe behaviours are identified.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all lifting operations on site, ensuring effective communication between the lifting team, site management and project stakeholders.
  • Adapt lifting plans where required in response to changing site conditions while maintaining safety and operational efficiency.
  • Support investigations into lifting incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

  • Work as an integral member of the Outage Team, promoting a positive safety culture across all activities.
  • Lead safety initiatives relating to lifting operations and contribute to wider site HS&E objectives.
  • Assist with accident and incident investigations and implement appropriate preventative measures.
  • Coordinate End of Outage HS&E reports, project close-out reviews and lessons learned activities, providing recommendations for continual improvement.
  • Provide feedback and continuous improvement recommendations to Field Service and Programme Management teams.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required to support the organisation's Health, Safety and Environmental commitments.
  • Deliver internal awareness sessions and guidance on standard lifting practices, specialist tooling and lifting compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Industry-recognised Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) qualification such as:
    • CPCS A61 Appointed Person
    • AP62 Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor
    • ECITB Appointed Person – Moving Loads
    • Or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • NEBOSH National Certificate (or currently working towards).
  • Minimum 5–7 years' experience in lifting operations.
  • Previous experience within a Safety Advisor role would be advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
    • LOLER
    • PUWER
    • Safe systems of work for lifting operations.
  • Experience developing lift plans, lifting risk assessments and method statements.
  • Knowledge of lifting planning software or CAD is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
