The Role

Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

As Newsweek nears its 100-year anniversary, we’re looking to rapidly expand how we communicate with our audience to increase loyalty among the more than 50 million unique visitors who come to us each month.

Newsweek is seeking a lifecycle marketing specialist to work with content and audience teams who can move at the speed of news to identify reader segments and build campaigns that address readers wherever they are on their journey with us. This person should understand how to shift casual readers to loyal fans in an audience funnel and must have the technical skills and experience to turn ideas into fully launched campaigns.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who brings experience working with ESPs like SailThru and who has worked with CDPs or other means of addressing users, from Piano to Blueconic or others. They should have a basic design understanding, from mocking up concepts to doing quick customizations with HTML and CSS. Specific tool experience is good, but we’re looking for people who can flexibly apply their knowledge and experience to new tools as we learn together.

Candidates should have email marketing experience as well as a keen interest in maximizing the contribution of newsletters to audience acquisition and conversion for the Newsweek brand. Previous experience in a media-related operation will help you receive top consideration. Help us build the future of Newsweek and grow its base of loyal fans.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous experience building, executing, and scaling acquisition and retention campaigns from concept to completion, both visually and technically.
  • Ability to develop engaging email layouts that are compatible across devices and email providers.
  • Ability to maintain a database of subscribers, managing list hygiene, deliverability and compliance.
  • Ability to use data to help content and audience teams identify anomalies or emerging trends to optimize campaigns.
  • Basic design capabilities, including mocking up concepts and making quick customizations with HTML and CSS.
  • Teamwork, functioning as part of an energetic team who all contribute ideas, hands-on work and execution to deliver fast, functional campaigns.
  • should also have experience A/B testing campaigns with an ESP, and experience with email optimization for increased click-through rates. Additionally, experience working with data feeds for automated emails.
  • Above all, curiosity — the ability to solve problems and thrive in a lively news environment.

Preferred additional qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SailThru and its Zephyr language.
  • Track record of use of a CRM or CDP to segment cohorts of users
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time with various requirements and resources.
  • Track record of working cross divisionally between content and product teams.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience
