The Librarian is responsible for managing
the school library as a dynamic learning resource centre that supports the
academic curriculum, promotes a culture of reading, develops information
literacy, and provides high-quality print and digital resources in a safe,
welcoming environment.
- Manage daily library operations
and circulation.
- Catalogue, classify, acquire
and maintain library resources.
- Assist students and teachers
with research and information retrieval.
- Conduct library orientation
sessions.
- Promote reading through events
and literacy programmes.
- Manage digital library
resources and library systems.
- Conduct stock verification and
maintain inventory records.
- Prepare library reports and
budget requests.
- Collaborate with teachers to
support the curriculum.
- Ensure compliance with library
policies and copyright.
Requirements
Skills Required
- Diploma or degree in Library Science, Information Management, Education, or a related field
- Previous experience as a librarian, preferably in a school environment
- Two to three years of experience in a school or academic library
- Experience working with children or school students
- Knowledge of library management systems, cataloguing, and classification methods
- Good computer literacy and ability to use digital learning resources
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities
