The Role

Job Description

JetBrains is a well-known international software development company. Ever since we started, back in 2000, we have strived to make the strongest, most effective developer tools on earth. Our products are used by more than 12.5  million users worldwide, and 88  of the Fortune Global 100 companies are our customers.

We are now looking for a senior legal professional to join and lead our Sales Legal team, which currently consists of three Legal Counsels and two Contract Managers. The team oversees the full global sales contracting lifecycle, including complex enterprise agreements and strategic negotiations, balancing commercial goals with legal and regulatory risk. In this role, you will combine supportive leadership and operational ownership of the agenda with active, hands-on involvement in contract management.

This is a hybrid position. Most team members work partly from home, but we also meet regularly in the office.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of contract managers and legal counsels, conducting regular 1:1s, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Set and monitor SLAs and KPIs for the sales legal function (e.g. response times, risk identification, escalation timelines, and workload distribution).
  • Serve as the central point of contact for the assigned sales legal agenda and cross-team initiatives.
  • Oversee and continuously improve the end-to-end sales contract lifecycle management framework (NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, reseller and channel agreements).
  • Drive implementation, standardization, and automation of contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and approval frameworks.
  • Ensure consistent application of risk assessment standards and structured escalation processes.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex or high-risk commercial matters and align mitigation strategies with senior legal leadership.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of sales contracts, owning the end-to-end legal sales support process from request validation through execution and post-signature follow-up.
  • Assess and categorize incoming contracts, define negotiation strategies, coordinate internal stakeholders, and consolidate feedback into a clear and consistent position.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Finance, Product, Security, Compliance, and other internal teams to enable revenue while safeguarding the business.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, workload metrics, and operational trends, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.

We’ll be happy to have you on our team if you have:

  • A law degree (or equivalent legal qualification).
  • 8 or more years of relevant post-university experience in commercial contracting, ideally in a multinational or technology-driven environment.
  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising legal professionals.
  • Strong expertise in commercial contract review and negotiation, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
  • Experience driving process improvements and implementing CLM tools or automation solutions.
  • The ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with hands-on contract management work.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Fluency in English, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

We’d be especially thrilled if you:

  • Have a supportive and empowering leadership style.
  • Possess quick reflexes when dealing with foreign laws and novel concepts.
  • Are comfortable navigating foreign laws and novel regulatory concepts.
  • Can provide clear, structured, and business-oriented advice to stakeholders without a legal background.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and sound commercial judgment.
  • Are diligent, transparent, and able to build trust across teams and geographies.
  • Previous experience with at least one of the following areas would be helpful and seen as complementary: enterprise software licensing, legal operations, process automation, or structured risk governance.
