The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) of American Express is where great legal minds influence global business strategy. Under the general supervision of the Legal Analyst, the Coordinator-Legal Operations is responsible for the end-to-end processing of garnishments, levies, and other similar third-party legal orders and providing other administrative support as required. 

Responsibilities
  • Intake, processing and responding to subpoenas, garnishments, levies, asset freezes, and similar legal orders as required.

  • Ensure that legal orders including subpoenas, garnishments, levies, and similar third-party legal orders are actioned timely in accordance with relevant federal and state laws.

  • Prepare correspondence to an issuer of a legal request.

  • Evaluate legal orders, research accounts, and identify customer or merchant accounts responsive to legal requests.

  • Provide support as part of a quality assurance team to ensure colleague work is performed in accordance with Amex policies, procedures and applicable law.

  • Perform quality testing inclusive of individual specialist monitoring and other quality programs as required.

  • Navigate multiple systems and platforms and adapting to new technologies.

  • Follow escalation criteria for third party legal orders to the supervisor when required.

  • Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of applicable federal and state laws, and policies and procedures related to the processing of legal orders.

  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

  • Support special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduates in law or related subjects.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduates in law or related subjects

  • 0-2 years of experience in an operations team/ in-house legal department

  • Articulate and fluent verbal and written English

  • Sense of urgency, ability to discern critical matters and to meet deadlines

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat

  • Able to work independently and as a team player

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Meticulous with attention to detail, able to analyze and problem solve

  • Able to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information from a variety of databases and information platforms

  • Able to work productively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
