Job DescriptionMatchMove is looking to hire a Legal Director to serve as MatchMove’s financial regulatory legal counsel across multiple Asia jurisdictions to support a rapidly growing business in the region. Reporting to the CEO and COO, the incumbent will provide support on legal, regulatory and commercial advice for daily business operations and general commercial and transactional matters involving the various global payment platforms in Asia, including commercial and procurement contract negotiations, drafting and reviewing of license applications and regulatory responses in conjunction with applicable laws and regulations framework.
Job Description
- Draft and negotiate contracts for regional payments with business partners covering technical integration, information security, data processing, regulatory compliance, settlement and marketing.
- Provide strategic legal and commercial advice to our regional sales teams on payment laws, regulations, data protection, compliance and risks relating to our business.
- Partner with sales, product and compliance teams to resolve open contractual points.
- Draft and negotiate ad hoc agreements to support commercial activities (e.g. referral, exclusivity).
- Draft contract templates for new services and update existing ones to ensure compliance with new regulations.
- Represent MatchMove on various fintech/payments-related topics before regulators, banking partners and other external audiences.
- Manage and instruct external counsel on regulatory and compliance issues.
- Coordinate execution of agreements and legalization of documents with regional colleagues and counterparties.
- Assist in general legal, commercial and regulatory compliance matters, such as MAS audits/reporting and any other regulatory reporting and compliance matters.
- Work closely with multi-cultural senior management and shareholders.
- Support corporate secretary tasks and other departments to ensure compliance across the stakeholders
Qualified lawyer with 6 to 8 PQE with regional experience across APAC, ideally from another FinTech company with financial regulatory background, specifically in payments.
Prior experience working in major financial institution, financial services regulatory authority, or sophisticated financial services regulatory practice within a major law firm.
- Familiar with anti-money laundering, data privacy, consumer protection and anti-bribery issues.
- A commercially savvy “business enabler”, who can proactively engage various stakeholders.
- Decisive, with excellent judgment, and adept at making smart decisions when faced with ambiguity and imperfect information.
- Executive presence, ability to lead and influence, and to articulate legal issues in layman terms.
- Excellent communicator (written and verbal), with an ability to make complex regulatory concepts clear to business teams, engineers and regulators.
- Strong knowledge on Singapore & Asia laws and regulations especially in the Payment Services Act by MAS.
