Job Description

About the job:

You’ll undertake a wide range of legal matters relating to our day to day and strategic initiatives. In particular, you will be:

  • Supporting the Latam Legal Counsel in driving key regional priorities, business planning, and growth strategies while evaluating overall legal risk considerations; 

  • Structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements with banking partners, API users, and enterprise customers. You will translate complex operational structures into clear, actionable terms; 

  • Based in our São Paulo office, working closely with multiple cross-functional business units across Latin America to provide day-to-day legal counsel. You will advise on ad-hoc challenges and a broad spectrum of legal matters, including financial regulations, consumer protection, payments, banking, marketing standards, commercial partnerships, and the launch of new products and features; 

  • Partnering with cross-functional teams (Product, Finance, Banking, Risk, Compliance, and PR) to launch innovative products, localization features, and support upcoming licensing pipelines across Latin America; 

  • Managing updates and general maintenance for customer agreements to reflect new services, market entries, and shifting local financial regulations. 

  • Working with the global Legal Team (based in Austin, London, Tallinn, New York, Singapore, and São Paulo) to deliver initiatives that will impact the wider group and company;

  • Working with other members of the legal team and outside counsel to analyze, evaluate, and manage local consumer litigation, regulatory disputes, and asset recovery matters;

  • Reviewing current operational practices, developing localized templates, and streamlining legal workflows in Latin America to increase velocity for internal business teams;

  • Staying up to date on legal developments in Latin America and advising on future-looking initiatives;

  • Working with the Legal Team to support the wider needs of the company, for example training and workshops. 

  • Providing legal support to Mexico, Chile and other countries in Latin America, as needed.

Qualifications

About you:

We are looking for a commercially minded, adaptable generalist attorney passionate about payments, fintech or financial services and with an eye on the future. You’ll have:

  • 4 - 8 years PQE and be a fully qualified attorney with an active registration to practice law in Brazil;

  • Previous law firm or in-house experience, focusing on payments, card processing, financial service, banking or investments;

  • Fluent English and Portuguese speaking skills, and preferably also Spanish;

  • Proven track record in autonomous commercial contract structuring, drafting, and high-stakes negotiation;

  • Strong interest and experience in financial services regulation, including payments, consumer protection, banking and investments framework;

  • A broad legal baseline that enables you to spot and resolve overlapping legal issues in upcoming product offerings (e.g., regulatory, contract, IP, privacy, consumer protection, risk); and an ability to distill complexity and to identify and clearly communicate practical, risk-based solutions;

  • A focus on impact, through trusted relationships and attention to detail; 

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, evaluate and manage litigation and disputes resolution proceedings;

  • Clear communication, project coordination, and management skills, including for partner relations;

  • A sense of camaraderie and good humor while under pressure or tight deadlines;

  • Wisdom, a world view and talent for thinking outside the box; and

  • Professionalism, attention-to-detail, ability to prioritize and multitask and high integrity.
