Job Summary
• To assist Absa in identifying, eliminating, minimising and managing legal risk, anticipating issues and estimating risks strategically by liaising directly with the business or legal advisers of the businesses as appropriate and providing effective legal guidance to facilitate business strategy development; and• To provide efficient and effective legal risk management support to the Head of Legal Zambia in the form of monitoring and compliance with internal policies and manage the impact of external factors affecting the business.
Job Description
Legal Risk Management & Advisory
Provides strategic legal advice across all business units to identify, mitigate, and manage legal risks, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Supports transactions in Corporate, Business Banking, Treasury, and Credit.
Contractual and Transactional Support
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates high-value contracts, credit facilities, and syndicated transactions, ensuring the Bank’s interests are protected and aligned with its growth strategy.
Litigation and External Counsel Oversight
Manages litigation within policy frameworks, oversees external legal resources, negotiates settlements, and controls legal spend, including fee approvals and performance monitoring.
Governance and Company Secretarial Support
Assists in delivering company secretarial services, including compliance with corporate governance standards, regulatory reporting, and board support when delegated by the Head of Legal.
Training, Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement
Delivers legal risk training, supports strategic initiatives, and engages with regulators and stakeholders to influence policy development and ensure alignment with the Bank’s operational and legal frameworks.
