Role Overview:
Success Academy Charter Schools is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its highly collaborative Advisory Legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative, dedicated attorney to grow and develop as an in-house generalist while contributing to a mission-driven organization committed to delivering excellent public education and supporting the growth and flourishing of its employees. You do not need a background in education- you just have to be a curious self-starter. We look forward to bringing on the right candidate and helping you learn this area!
Key Responsibilities:
Advise on legal questions touching all aspects of our operations, including expansion, compliance, charter management, and our day-to-day operations.
Manage regulatory reporting to authorizers and government agencies.
Support advocacy and lobbying efforts.
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, using pragmatic business judgment and making appropriate risk determinations.
Advise on data privacy issues.
Conduct legal research and writing.

Demonstrated interest in education and/or the nonprofit sector.
Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and willing to take on new challenges.
Strong interest in supporting advocacy and expansion efforts in New York and beyond.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or equivalent).
Licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state, with admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for in-house qualification in New York.
At least four years of legal experience, including in-house at a fast-paced company, nonprofit, and/or BigLaw.
Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience. This position is not bonus eligible.
