About your team
Fidelity International holds the integrity of its business dealings as one of the core values of the organization and therefore the role that the legal and compliance function fulfils is critical. The Department works in partnership with other businesses, support, and operation areas to ensure that all the appropriate regulatory controls are in place efficiently and effectively through day-to-day advice, trainings, and regular/ ad-hoc compliance monitoring. The Department also be engaged in various initiatives and projects to develop/enhance businesses by proactive collaboration across the functions locally and internationally. It does also work with local regulators, government bodies and industry associations in influencing and shaping future requirements to protect investors.
About your role
The position will be expected to be an integral part of the Japan and Asia regional Business Legal and Compliance function, which in turn is an integral part of Fidelity’s Global Oversight function. The position requires a candidate who can contribute to good customer outcomes and the growth of Fidelity by providing effective, accurate and business orientated legal advice and company secretarial services - proactively delivering pragmatic solutions in partnership with our internal clients and external stakeholders while protecting Fidelity’s interests, with the strength and vision to develop a top-flight, business focused, proactive compliance function, working across business disciplines to provide focused and clear, commercially oriented advice to the businesses with the highest integrity.
- Review legal agreements, provide sound legal judgement, analyse and assess situations, identifying the inherent legal and other risks and ensure the protection of Fidelity and its clients.
- Partner with, and offer value-added advice to, the business and as well as to functional support areas on legal and regulatory issues, and lead legal/compliance projects with minimal supervision
- Proactively support Japan business through providing legal and regulatory advice in structuring products and business models/services in good cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and present reports and relevant management information for internal boards, audit and risk committees and other governing bodies.
- Conduct training programs for the legal/compliance teams and clients.
- Partner with general counsel group peers ensure consistent and integrated delivery across general counsel functions for Japan.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the external legal panels
- Partner with legal peers to promote a consistent approach and application of standard procedures and practices across legal.
- Partner with Regional Co-Sec team for company secretariat work for Japan
- Partner across the firm to ensure Fidelity takes an active role in responding to and implementing change in an increasingly complex and demanding regulatory environment.
- Proactively assist the Head of Legal and Compliance, Japan in progressing Fidelity’s lobby agenda
About you
- Strong legal skills and experience
- 7+ years of plus post-qualification work experience in a law firm or financial services environment
- Experience working in asset management preferred
- Verbal and written communication skill both in Japanese and English is mandatory
- Understanding of business goals, customer focused and solution driven mindset
- Team player who is sensitive to the needs of the functional business units
- Excellent interpersonal communication skill at all levels junior to senior management
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability and high attention to detail
- Self-starter with a can-do attitude who is able to work as part of a team
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Licensed to practice law
- Good IT skills (including Microsoft Office, leveraging AI)
