The Role

Legal Counsel       

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support on Macau Operations, including products, distribution, marketing, claims and complaints

  • Manage and advise on claims, complaints and litigation matters in Macau and develop strategies to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting the company’s interests

  • Draft, review and negotiate agreements and other documents in relation to Hong Kong and Macau Operations and Distribution channels

  • Advise on intra-group agreements and other general corporate, commercial and governance matters of the company and the group

  • Provide legal advice and support on business projects, new business models and other strategic initiatives of the company and the group

  • Advise on consultations of new laws and regulations in Hong Kong and Macau and support on regulatory submissions and filings to the IA, the AMCM and other relevant authorities

  • Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory changes in Hong Kong and Macau, including updates from the IA, the AMCM and other relevant authorities

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders in Hong Kong, Macau, Asia and North America to provide legal and regulatory support

  • Instruct, monitor and supervise the work of external counsel

  • Draft, review and update agreement templates for legal team and business units

  • Prepare regular regulatory reports and assist in reporting exercises

  • Conduct legal research and perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience in the insurance or financial services industry of Hong Kong

  • Proven knowledge in Hong Kong insurance laws and legal and regulatory framework in Macau

  • Prior experience in working with the IA, the AMCM or other financial regulatory bodies is an advantage

  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines

  • Self-motivated personality with passion to learn new knowledge in a fast-changing area

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Have good commercial sense and business acumen

  • Good interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset and ability to build relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
