What We Need:

We operate in a fast moving and internationally regulated industry. We are actively searching for a qualified Legal Counsel to build and lead the legal function across the group. The role is based in Singapore / Kuala Lumpur and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The individual will also collaborate with other Heads of Department and will be expected to engage with key stakeholders such as the business team. 

This is a hands-on role for a dynamic individual comfortable working across corporate, regulatory, commercial, and intellectual property matters in a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional structure. The ideal candidate will not only ensure legal conformity but also work proactively to minimize the exposure of any legal risk while being commercially minded. 

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory & Licensing

  • Lead all regulatory matters, including licensing applications, renewals, and ongoing compliance across relevant jurisdictions. 
  • Monitor evolving regulations across target markets and advise the business on market entry, restrictions, and compliance obligations. 
  • Liaise with external advisers on all regulatory matters and ongoing compliance. 

Corporate & Structuring

  • Advise on and maintain the group's corporate structure. 
  • Manage corporate governance across the group entities. 
  • Support any M&A and corporate restructuring as the group grows. 

Commercial Contracts

  • Draft, review, and negotiate B2B licensing and marketing agreements. 
  • Oversee vendor and third-party service agreements across all entities. 
  • Lead due diligence process and requirements. 

IP & Data Protection

  • Manage intellectual property strategy and protection. 
  • Oversee data protection compliance across jurisdictions. 

Risk, Compliance & Litigation

  • Establish and maintain group-wide compliance frameworks. 
  • Manage disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations, where required. 
  • Provide HR-adjacent legal support on employment matters, policies, and sensitive personnel matters.

Team & Process Building

  • Build out legal processes, templates, and playbooks suited to a multi-entity group. 
  • Conduct in-house training sessions for internal stakeholders across all business and operational units, where required. 
  • Manage outside counsel relationships across jurisdictions. 
  • Keep abreast of relevant legal developments and changes in laws and regulations that may impact the business. 
  • Support ad-hoc projects as the business and group continues to grow and evolve. 
Who We Think Will Be A Great Fit - You Have/Are:
  • Law degree from a recognised university. 
  • Qualified lawyer in Singapore, Malaysia, United Kingdom or other common law jurisdiction with 5 to 8 years of legal experience including law firm or in-house experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of IP/TMT with experience in regulatory regimes and licensing processes. 
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills in a technology or gaming context. 
  • Prior experience in industries such as technology, gaming or digital services and experience with corporate structuring or familiarity with cross-border data protection regimes would be added advantages but not compulsory. 
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy in a lean, fast-paced, multi-entity Singapore headquartered environment. 
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. 
  • A reliable and meticulous self-starter with strong work ethic. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to be commercially minded, balancing legal constraints with business goals and objectives. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with non-legal stakeholders and communicate complex legal/regulatory matters concisely.

Skills Required

  • Law degree from a recognised university
  • Qualified lawyer in Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, or another common law jurisdiction
  • 5 to 8 years of legal experience, including law firm or in-house experience
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property and technology, media, and telecommunications law
  • Experience with regulatory regimes and licensing processes
  • Commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience in a technology or gaming context
