We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.
About your team:
At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.
We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.
Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade power, gas, LNG, and energy attributes and connect producers, suppliers and off takers in the wholesale energy markets - and we provide our clients with the best route-to-market services available to the market today with physical and financial settlement approaches. In short, we call ourselves Energy Movers By Nature.
Centrica Energy has an exciting new opportunity for a skilled Legal Counsel to join our dedicated team on our journey towards energising a greener, fairer future. If you have a law degree and would like to make your contribution to the future in energy, now is your chance.
Location: The role can be based out of any of our offices in either London, Aalborg or Copenhagen on a hybrid basis.
The purpose of the role is to provide legal support primarily for the gas and power trading activities of Centrica Energy. You will have a variety of responsibilities including:
- Providing strategic legal advice to the business to assist with the negotiation of agreements with a focus on gas and power trading.
- Negotiating and drafting of standard master agreements with external counterparties for physically and financially settled energy commodity trading (UK and Europe gas and power, emissions allowances, renewable certificates).
- Participating in project groups / work groups giving legal advice and assessments.
- Working as part of project teams either for transactional work or to help implement new processes, products and systems such as approving new strategic business initiatives, new products and entry into new geographical jurisdictions.
- Drafting and negotiating contracts in co-operation with the business.
- Developing and maintaining templates for the standard master agreements (ISDA, EFETs, MNA, GTMA, etc), proactively keeping up to date with legal developments of the agreements.
- Assessing applicable forthcoming legislation changes (in conjunction with Regulatory Affairs and Compliance as appropriate) and advising Centrica Energy on potential impact.
- Contributing to various initiatives within Centrica Energy and Centrica Group legal teams.
- Instructing and working with external counsel.
- Managing Centrica's overall legal risk position by ensuring that contracts reflect best practice.
Who are we looking for?
- A law degree from a European country.
- Experience in drafting agreements and negotiating standard master agreements for physical and financial trading of power and gas like EFET, ISDA etc.
- Speak and write English fluently.
- Experience working as a legal counsel/attorney or similar.
Ideally you will be a self-starter who can keep calm in a fast-moving environment whilst prioritising different tasks appropriately in co-operation with other legal counsels. The role also requires that you can manage a varied workload to a high level of detail and be able to break down complex legal matters effectively to allow for clear understanding and decision making.
Depending on your specialties and interests this role could include working across European markets and on other international markets in the future.
