The Legal Counsel - Procurement is responsible for providing strategic and practical legal support to Danaher’s Corporate Procurement department. This role is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts; developing and maintaining contract templates (including Master Service Agreements, SOWs, and Terms & Conditions) and related processes; ensuring compliance with relevant laws and internal policies; helping ensure the function is effectively leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in its processes; and supporting the organization’s sustainability, risk management, and supplier governance initiatives. The ideal candidate is a business-oriented attorney who can balance legal risk with operational needs and help drive procurement excellence across the company.

This position reports to the SVP - Deputy GC, Secretary & Chief Sustainability Officer and is part of the Corporate Procurement Team. The role will be based onsite in Washington, D.C.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate procurement-related agreements, including MSAs and different types of supplier agreements; develop and maintain contract templates and standard terms; maintain related processes; and provide legal guidance to procurement teams.  Effective use of AI tools will be an important element of these responsibilities.
  • Provide Corporate Procurement Advisory & Stakeholder Support by acting as the primary legal advisor for the Corporate Procurement department on sourcing strategies, RFPs, and vendor negotiations; and supporting training and education for procurement professionals on key, relevant legal and compliance topics. You will also collaborate closely with a number of functions and business units to further these objectives.
  • Compliance, Risk & Policy Initiatives. Ensure vendor arrangements adhere to regulatory requirements; support the development and implementation of procurement standard work, including policies, governance frameworks, and supplier risk assessments. Assist in resolving contract disputes, claims, performance issues, and escalation matters.
  • Advance Sustainability & ESG Initiatives by providing legal support for supply chain sustainability programs; supporting the integration of supply chain sustainability into supplier contract management and risk assessment; and monitoring relevant legal developments relating to supply chain transparency, human rights, and similar topics.
  • Support initiatives to improve digitalization of contracting processes and create a Procurement Legal Library/Sharepoint site.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent legal degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in, and member in good standing of, a U.S. state or territory (waiver into Washington, D.C. bar will be required).
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience in commercial contracting (procurement contracting experience preferred), including strong drafting and negotiation skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of contract law, procurement processes, and commercial risk allocation.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Sustainability, ESG regulations, or supply chain compliance

This role will be a remote position with ability to be in DC office when needed for onsite meeting. Ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to Danaher Corporate Office.

The annual salary range for this role is $200,000 - $230,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
